Building the railroad

7:00am - I painted the room this morning and I just finished drawing the track plan which took five minutes.

-13-Text.jpg

7:15am - I've completed the benchwork and it took longer than I thought - fifteen minutes!

0%282%29.jpg

7:30am - the track installation went OK and took 15 minutes.  While I was waiting for the glue to dry I built a little corner scene I'll call "Buck and Loretta's"

gByBucks.jpg

7:45 - Corner's curved and backdrop installed.  I also built some hills, carved the rocks, and added trees.

p8-11-14.JPG

8:00am - I thought that the corner could use a building so I kit bashed a structure and added an operating overhead door.

-10-1-14.jpg

8:30am - time for breakfast......be right back!

9am - I thought the corner could use something so I installed a mountain.  I wanted to try out the waterfall, but didn't like it.

_9-18-15.jpg

9:30am - removed the waterfall, built a shack, water tower, and added a few trees.

12-9-15c.jpg

12 Noon - that took FOREVER!  Time for lunch.....be right back.

1:00pm - Long lunch....got to hurry and make up some time......on to the fascia.

u_2-9-16.jpg

1:30pm - Whew!  It took me half an hour to put up the fascia.  Now on to a little paint.

_2-16-16.jpg

2:00pm - The Mrs just called me and wants me to paint the exterior of the house - be back in about an hour.....

Thanks Rob & Michael

I'm glad that you enjoyed the humor.  Michael, I know that you have a great sense of humor and are a great sport.  I'm actually glad I can't work fast like you or I'd have the layout completed and nothing to do!  And just to be clear - I meant this as a compliment of your building speed and skills!

Just reading that scenario

I like the forced perspective!

I like the forced perspective! What size is that little shack you put on the mountain?

I imagine my railroad being built very quickly but after a few months I am no where near the progress I had expected. Thanks for the laugh!

In a nutshell

Michael Rose has a huge n scale layout. His modelling is first class and his approach is often quite innovative. He posts almost daily updates of his progress and the work happens at seemingly astonishing rate. In fact it happens so fast, there is a running joke about the hoard of elves that are actually doing the work for him.

Anyone that is not following Michaels prolific blog is missing out.

Thanks Bill.  Brief

Thanks Bill.  Brief explanation was very helpful in cluing me in.  When I get time later or over the weekend I'll check it out.  If Mike is considered Speedy Gonzales of layout building, I must be Slowpoke Rodriguez!    He must have a VERY patient wife or be single, one of those two!

Efficient

I'm sure Michael's wife is a wonderful woman, but his secret is efficiency - he uses his time wisely.  He works out of his home, so he can start a task early, work for a while, take a coffee break and do another task, and if he's cutting something on his laser, it can be doing that while he works.  While most of us are in awe at the speed in which he works, I think he just uses his time so much more efficiently than the rest of us - he has no more time than anyone else.  If people took away one thing from Michael's blog that made them better, I think the most important thing would be in improving their efficiency in the layout room.
