I don't think I got more than two feet inside the Celebration Room today. They were doing judging, which makes photography problematical, and I didn't see anything particularly new. Sorry if I missed anyone's submissions - I haven't uploaded the photos of everything there (sometimes my photos just weren't good enough, which means pretty bad), and if I tried, I wouldn't get any sleep. And I do need my sleep.

Exciting events at the convention today - as I was outside taking charge of 4 decent sized tanks of CO2 for the Iwata airbrushing clinics tomorrow (personal recommendation: I love my Iwata...), the sound of an odd siren rent the air. It didn't sound like a police car, or a fire truck, and seemed too maybe be coming from the Portland MAX light-rail tracks behind the parking structure. Okay, that's odd. So I led the guy from the welding company the gas was coming from into the building - and there are a lot of people in the hallway. A very lot of people. We get to the Clinic Office and the siren sounds again - from inside the building. Turns out that the emergency alert system was inadvertantly tripped, multiple times, followed by an announcement that it was inadvertent, there was no emergency, and sorry for the inconvenience. Sigh. Fire truck showed up. I went to get lunch across the street. Came back to no fire truck, but as soon as I hit the front doors, there was the alert siren going off again... but that was pretty much the last time.

Today and tomorrow the Northwest Railroad Prototype Modelers have a display of some of their models in the Broadway Room here at the DoubleTree, and I went to take some photos.

Often at an RPM event the models stand alone - without any descriptions or anything. Sometimes they do have them. We had both here -

James is scheduled to lead a clinic on weathering freight cars on Thursday here at the convention.

Okay, this car needs a little explanation. It's an Ambroid model of a phosphate car, a sort of covered hopper that was loaded via side hatches rather than top ones.

Such innocent looking loads above, aren't they? But these loads hold a secret... these loads are two-faced . Reversable loads -

That's it for today - I've got two sets of clinic slides to copy from a CD-ROM to a thumbdrive to two of the clinic machines. But I should be getting to bed significantly earlier than last night.

Which thought makes me happy.

I'm going to try and take in a couple of clinics tomorrow.

Day after tomorrow begins the National Train Show!

See you tomorrow.

Reversible loads?

Looks like the second pic of the loads didn't upload, and I'm really curious to see it. Thanks for posting these.

Reversible loads

There isn't a second pic, just a YouTube of me flipping one over.

New products will probably announced @ the train show.

Any new products are usually announced at the National Train Show by the manufacturers at their booths, rather than at the convention.
