I have been given new track rights by the power of SWMBO.It was out of the blue and has taken me quite by surprise.Room size is 12 x 8 ft

To use it has has taken quite a lot changes, I have removed the two helixes  I had in the old room ,one had the cement plant on top of it , the other under Elgin and was difficult to get out without wrecking all of it.  When finnished  I will have one helix which will be next to Elgin . There will be an up line to Elgin [at the top of the helix] and a down line coming from the new room to return to Proviso for continuous running.

So for Mr Hobbs here's some pics of  my new West Chicago, I am building in the new room.

Cheers Les

Entering the new room past

Entering the new room past the freezer works. There is a micro switch cutting power to the track just after the two switches on the main . power to the sidings is cut also.

out and over we go

start of run around and to back track for return loop of bottom deck

Theres another microswitch in the joint here that cuts power to gate and this side of gate. You can see other switch for run round.

trailing switch to the wall will be to Blommers Chocolate factory. The front switch will go down to freight co

The end of yard and you can see the back track sneaking out through the wall in the corner just.Where the track and cork is will be a power station that will not be acessible from the main . Coal mine on other side of wall . loads in loads out affair. line will connect back to helix through door  from power station

Cheers les

Looking  good. You using

Looking  good. You using  Peco code 75 or  100?  Nice looking CNW  heritage engine. Athearn Genesis I presume. Have you posted a  track plan for your new layout.

Phil I am using code 100

Phil I am using code 100 atlas flex and Peco code 100 streamline insulfrog medium turnouts. There is a couple longs at each end of yard new room and Atlas joiners. Over all, the combination has worked well for me for decades. This is an additional room to the layout. I have removed two 26"r helixes in the other room and replaced them with one 30"r  /   32 1/2"r  helix, on the end of the peninsular. It will have an up line to Elgin Ill [ 30"r ] and a separate down line [ 32 1/2r ]  which will only go a half turn on the helix for making the return to Proviso. Climbing inside the helix [ separate track]  from Proviso will be the line to the mine/Power station [ loads in /loads out] through the wall between the rooms and then connects back to the helix

The SD70ace is MTH DCC/ Proto3 sound first release and hasn't missed a beat since I received it. I usually run it with the twins 8701 and 8646 [ only C&NW paint left on UP ] both non sound RTR Athearn  with a 50 car consist behind them + caboose. Yep they still run here, as well as freds.

No track plan posted mate. If I could figure out a program I would, and I haven't been satisfied with my Pen and paper efforts to date either.DSCF0882.JPG

Elgin on top deck of layout. I pulled the helix under here the main will turn right and down instead of left and down helix, This will stay the nearly the same as I didn't have to damage it much

This is the other helix and its all gone except for the back drop boards.

Version 3 looks like it going to be a success from the small ops we have done so far. Having distance between towns is great. I will soon start on the top deck in the new oom

Cheers Les

Well its time I updated this

Well its time I updated this showing what I have been up to. I finally got it running again just before Christmas

This is the new helix that replaced the two that I had before The whole layout is now 30"r or bigger

In the old room lookin towards the new one .It was a mission to get in and out and trying to maintain percentage climb and fall

Heading under Elgin grain dryers off the Double track which only goes 180 degrees around the out side of the second layer from top

We then come out in front of the new cement plant location which used to be on top off out bound helix

We then climb past the car plant and go under Chrysler ave bridges

I'm yet to get some lighting in for the bottom deck but the back drop buildings look great

I had to raise the track there at the back to get the main high enough to get into new room

Here is some discussions of the gentleman's layout who has posted a few good videos recently.
I guess he got caught up in that Photobucket  mess and that's the reason a lot of photos are missing?

What was the point of resurrecting a thread that essentially has no content anymore since the photos are missing after seven years of inactivity?

I thought possible he might return to the forum since he is posting current videos on YouTube.

And I thought that another Aussi might know of him and offer some details etc.

Ken, Iwish I had the plan MMmmmm. Ist room is 16 1/2ft x 14 1/2 ft second room is 8ft X 12ft The scene you see at start with train climbing past cement pland and then the Chysler plant is small room that was second back door of my house so that gives 22 1/2 ft on that side and the notch out on the other through the doorway between the rooms . Its basicly a no-lix with a helix but I now added another single turn circle under and around the helix in the opposing direction to lessen grade up past the cement plant and as a bonus got the coal prep plant scene. I'll have to figure some thing on the plan a s lot of people ask for it . Towns are Proviso [ Berkeley Metra end], West Chicago, Elgin, Belevidere, Rockford. C&NW still lives and hasn't been swallowed up by the borg. The two C44 's are at there limit with 36 cars concidering the only flat part of the layout is Proviso and the rest is up or down at mainly 3% grades. The climb from Proviso to West Chicago is 2%. Min radius is 30r to match with Peco med code 100 points/switches and Atlas code 100 flex Cheers Les

Scale is HO . Grades 1:33

Scale is HO . Grades 1:33 max, 30"r  on continuous run mainline .Power is 10amp NCE radio plus one tethered for the yard. All the guys in our group here use NCE cabs so we can use them at each others place

My lttle mate Charlie and I formed the WEUSANDCORR on the first weekend of October  1976.It took up half his double garage and I also had 10ft x 10ft at home.We used to run it  as a ficticious line using yellow green an black as colour scheme and used to print decals with a Alps 1000 printer.  I was in a hobby shop an seen an Atlas C&NW l SD24. This was way back in 1976 which then gave us a factory paint job with out doing too much. When computers became the go I purchased the  Alps 1000 and changed the herald to suit our company. After a house move 800klms north and with the net now available I started investigating the Can't an never will an became more an more interested to the point that I.ve been collecting for ages and finally I'm gettin it up an runnin. This is nearly four years down the track after adding a specific room to the house.Still not big enough [smile] but will have to do.

Theres a lot of thanks to Mike Chapmon of Branchline Hobbies  in Longview Texas who recently passed away for helping me amass all the info and books DVD's etc.I'v never drawn a track plan so will give it a go when I return.I'm an interstate trucker hense the long time in gettin it goin.

Thanks for your interest & Cheers

Welcome back Les to one of the best model RR forums on the web. Plus it has new software running the site that seems to be working out very well.

I am somewhat amazed at the number of non-usa folks that decide to model American railroads.

Per those deleted photobucket photos, perhaps the site owner JoeF will allow you to edit those previous postings of yours, OR just delete the photobucket messages, and you could add some new stills,...if you are so inclined?
