Purchased!

I purchased the download, I've been soooo looking forward to this one. Am I first?

I even remembered to use the TMTV discount code, what a great deal!

Yep

Yep, you're the first. And that's one thing we don't promote enough - TMTV members get 15% off everything in the MRH Store using the TMTV member coupon code here. But you need to be a TMTV member to use it.

Once you've watched it, Bill, let us know what you think ...

Got the DVD!

Just ordered the DVD using the coupon code! Thanks Joe! The Allagash is one of my favorite Model Railroads along with your Siskiyou Line which I have the original DVD set. I look forward to more outstanding videos from both these great layouts in the future.

Not sure what the deal is there. Macs should work fine. Try Chrome instead of Safari on your Mac and see if that makes any diff. It always helps on any device to have at least two browsers to use so if one doesn't seem to like something maybe the other one will work better.

Well, 2016 is the Siskiyou Line's 25th anniversary, so there will be a number of Siskiyou Line videos and eBooks coming in 2016 to help celebrate this notable milestone.

And Mike's got more videos and eBooks he's cogitating on now, besides just the Weathering video, which should show up here one of these days.

hmmm.....

Downloaded the videos, but when I try to extract them with the built in windows 7 extractor, I get this:

[attach:fileid=198830_73_kn0+AAAAAElFTkSuQmCC]

When I use 7zip to extract a video, it extracts the file, but the resulting file will not play in media player. My Op Live 5 videos play fine.

Could there be something wrong with the files on the server?
Is anyone else having trouble?

Tried another computer...

Tried the first video from my other pc and it downloaded fine.

So I guess that's not a server problem... Time to dig into this PC.

Unblock File

Hi Bill, if you right click on the file and open properties, on the General Tab does it say its Blocked?.  If so, click the Unblock button, then extract the file.

Yes, but...

Unblocked it but still the same problem.

When I download to another pc and copy the zip over, it works fine.

Problem with #4....

I had to download the #4 file a second time. I did it on the same machine and with the same software (Chrome and 7zip) - it worked fine the second time. All the others were fine. #4 is a large file and I would bet it was corrupted in the transfer.

These HD video files are large

These are really big video files - they're HD and some are up to 1GB in size. That will mean you need some decent bandwidth and may take more than one try sometimes. We even sometimes have problems uploading the masters and have to try again. You'll need some patience and sometimes have to retry. If it fails, do what Bill did and change the mix somehow - different device, different browser, different time of day, etc.

Downloaded!

Downloaded OK to my iPad Mini, and then via Goodreader. Only #8 failed twice, but then I was using wi-fi and had moved the device further away, coupled with it being a large file.

I normally download anything in the early morning, the west coast of the U.S. Is just going to sleep, and the further east should be already! Normally very quick then!

Now to find time to watch them.....

Thanks.

We'll be quite interested in what you all think of this OPs LIVE volume.

Should be coming to TMTV by the end of the summer.

Downloaded & extracted fine...

...on Win 8.1 IE11, WinRAR (free version) to unzip. Then I figured I'd better watch #1 just to see. After that I was hooked and binge-watched the rest (I really need to get a life). Seriously - excellent work! This absolutely captures what I'd like to achieve operationally on my layout. Great idea to show the "life" of a specific location during a session, especially as it got pretty busy near the end. Made a nice change to following a train around its route for a session (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Great idea having the dispatcher radio channel open throughout so we can hear what else is going on around the Allagash, and what's coming at us next.

One (tiny) gripe: Please find a better uncoupling tool/method! Watching all those lengthy attempts to uncouple followed by occasional lifting up of cars by hand tended to "break the spell" a bit for me. I reckon the point of the pencil in the brakeman's other hand would have done a better job than the "angled skewer".

Seriously: To me this and the rest of the Allagash videos and articles are the absolute essence of what model railroading ought to be: creative design +,thoughtful execution + clever use of technology + operational realism = FUN!

Keep up the outstanding work Mike and MRH!

What I do ...

I reckon the point of the pencil in the brakeman's other hand would have done a better job than the "angled skewer".

What I do to help alleviate this issue is file down the tiny hook on the face of Kadee couplers. Be careful, you don't want to remove it completely or you'll start getting a lot of unintended uncouples. The best place to do this filing in on loco couplers, since that will be a lot of your uncouples.

Next is to do it on cars.

Just 2 or 3 passes of a file to take the edge off it will greatly assist in uncoupling with skewers. I'll be covering this and many other tips in my upcoming "Make it run like a dream" eBook series in 2016. There will be 3 volumes: Track, Rolling Stock, and Locos.

One "cheat" that's less jarring than the 0-5-0 lift and drop uncoupling is to deliberately pull things together with the thumb and pinkie to create slack, then the skewers usually work fine. It's that little hook on the two coupler faces that's giving you the grief - Kadee's design makes this so slack is required before uncoupling will occur.

No slack and you'll fight the couplers to get them to separate - but that's by design.

Not quite that easy

Quote:

My bad, did not see that the Disc is not HD. Can I swap my order out for the HD download over the DVD? I will end up watching it on the PC either way.

Not quite that easy - our accountant will want us to refund the first purchase and then have a second one put in - keeps the order records straight when you do that.

And when I checked, the DVD has already shipped, so you've got it. We don't like returns - we just tell people to keep them because the return postage is usually several dollars and all that postage back and forth can add up to the cost of another disk.

Email store@mrhmag.com with your request and we'll figure something out - but either way, please don't send the disk back - we don't want it.

Jealous...

I kind of wish I would've ordered the DVD now. I ordered the download. Had to let it download overnight, only part #1 so far. Having the same issues mentioned previously trying to open the downloaded file. Downloaded to my Surface. I'll try downloading to my old laptop this weekend. I think I'd prefer just a link to the videos hosted on TMTV or something.

Large downloads on a slow connection in a browser

Trying to download these huge high quality HD files over a slow internet connection inside a browser can really try your patience. Better, when that's what's happening, is to get yourself an Internet Download Manager and use it. Beats trying to download huge files inside a browser all to pieces.

Just Google your device and internet download manager, for example: PC internet download manager

With an IDM, you can schedule downloads to start while you're asleep, and if the download dies part way through, you can restart it.

As for videos coming to TMTV, think of how Hollywood does it - first the movies come to the theaters, then later to DVD. We do it the other way, first our videos come to DVD / download, then to TMTV later. So this will come to TMTV by the end of the summer. But if you want a copy to own, you'll need to buy the DVD or the download. The download is higher quality, BTW - it's HD (720p), while the DVDs are 480i. On TMTV, you'll get the HD version.

No joy

I can't get them to extract. :-(   They seem to download to a windows XP machine fine, but then when I try to extract them, it says there are no files to unzip.

MRH Store problem

Just purchased the Ops Live download, using the TMTV discount code, and paid by Paypal. Immediately received a payment receipt from Paypal, but the MRH Store page just hung with "........waiting for receipt from Paypal"

So now I have a record of payment, but no download!
