In February, I spent a week in Bangkok to provide lectures at Mahidol University. Since model railroading is not yet a very popular hobby in Thailand, I was surprised to find a model railroad shop in Bangkok. It's located in the Fortune City Mall. However, they only had stuff from German manufacturers.

Bangkok is also an interesting destination for trainspotting. The best location for railfanning is Hua Lamphong Station.

On a daily basis, you can still watch old GE engines built in the early 1960s.

Bangkok Model railroading.

I believe I have seen several Model Railroaders from Thailand on some forums. I spent a year in Thailand in 65/66 compliments of USAF. The wife and I spent several weeks in Thailand in 08.  Great country and there are a number of electronic toy stores in BKK. Didn't see much Model Railroad stuff but I am sure there is some. We also had lunch by the Kwai River bridge near the Kanchanburi  British Military Cemetairy.  Rail service to Burma if you wish.

Thanks

Wayne

An interesting prototype

Up to now, I've not yet met any model railroaders modeling Thai prototype. However, with all these nice engines, some of them more than 50 years old, Thai railways would provide an interesting prototype for a layout. If some rolling stock was available, I would probably make a diorama. The area around Hua Lamphong station is full of scenes you could directly use for a diorama.

White Pass and Yukon could be a starting point

White Pass and Yukon could be a starting point to kitbash the 4043 in the photo above. But any available models might be narrow gauge?  http://mycruisestories.com/2012/08/25/white-pass-and-yukon-railroad-in-skagway-alaska/

Narrow gauge fits

Rob,

Since the Thai railways are meter gauge, a H0n3 model would fit perfectly.
