Just a reminder, if you do

Just a reminder, if you do decide to do the 3rd street layout as the late Wolfgang Dudler did check out his layout posts as he actually lengthened it a bit so the down grade to the lower level could be no more than 3 or 3.5 percent. If you were to add 2 or 3 feet to the length in the middle to do that it would add to a real nice concept rather nicely.

There are a great many other interesting things on his layout to see as well. There are also several very nice videos of him operating his layout.

Nice. I built that one about 20 years back, was a lot of switching fun.

Prototype?

In Boston, MA there were a couple HUGE yards, that were not connected, so tracks were layed on streets to connect the yards. It was called the Union Frieght according to a book I have...    Here's the section from it that mentions the line:

It probably could be modeled on a shelf, with some good adjusting...          Pretty neat that it lasted until 1970, most stuff like this would be gone. Hope this is helpful! Sorry about the quality of the first picture...

Actually it has been

There is also a book regarding building that model as well as city modeling that went with it. It was published by Kalmbach.

John Pryke built this layout as an add on to his larger layout and went into great detail how to build the city scenery and this particular track plan.
