Uncoupling cars using Kadee Uncoupling magnets. This will save a ton of ware and tear on your rolling stock.  If you run op sessions or just move cars around to yards and industries these magnests can make it hands free.

Nice video Art. I have always

Nice video Art. I have always thought 050s and uncoupling with utility poles was unrealistic. Also the u-shaped uncoupling tools are also hard on details like the skewers and present their own problems with cars equipped with steel nuts for weight.....Branchline for example. If you have worked on the trucks and gotten them to be free rolling the magnets in the u-shaped tool will attract them.

An additional benefit of the hands off approach is it allows both hands to be on the throttle and not destroying layout details with one of them.

It would be nice if you were to address the use of electro-magnets as well. That way you can also only have the magnets working when you want them to and avoid uncoupling in high traffic areas.

Electric Magents

I use them at Gil Firtage's Stony Creek and Western and they allow for better movement over them with out affecting your operations except when you want it to happen. Good to use on main line. Only draw back is it requires every one to locate and understand how you have yours set up to work.

But anything that stops the touching and handling of cars is good.

Familiar Subject – Just not Kadee & Video Link

I like the rare earth approach. When buying in bulk it can be less expensive than Kadees.

Art,

How did you add your YouTube embed code to the post? I am curious because this is the second post this week with embeded Shockwave ActiveX controls in in the script. Many browsers including IE and Firefox restrict access to or block these functions preventing the viewing of associated videos. The Shockwave ActiveX controls are usually not included when copying links from YouTube (Right Click on Video> Copy embed code). The revised link to your video below does not include Shockwave ActiveX controls and works just fine.

Arthur, I just wanted to add

Arthur, I just wanted to add that I watch(ed) ALL of your Ops videos on youtube and look forward to many more. It's been great seeing so many Ops oriented layouts "up close and personal" via your "channel". I encourage others who haven't seen the to check them out. For guys n' gals who can't afford to do the "Op til' you drop" weekends around the country it's a great way to visit and observe vicariously.

You really should change poor Brian's name from Brain to Brian someday though  (Hah, that should get 'em looking)...Hope to meet you in person one day at an OpSig session.

Cheers, Jim
