BackdropJunction

Hi Everyone,

Been a long time since we posted anything in here.  Just wanted to provide an update for our product line.  We have just added about ten new backdrops in the last few days.  That brings us to over 230 scenes to choose from.  We have scenes from all over the United States, some from Canada, and a bunch from Northern Ireland, Ireland and Scotland.

We have also launched what we are calling the Express Line.  These backdrops are ready to go right away and can be purchased using the installed PayPal buttons.  For HO they are 17" high and for N 14" high.  Each section is six feet long.  Many can be combined with other Express Line scenes to form longer scenes.  Each of these have common numbers with sequential lettering.

We have rolled out some new materials to print on.  We still carry the adhesive vinyl, and the non-adhesive vinyl as previous, but now we are offering an adhesive polypropylene product as well. All three are waterproof and tear resistant.  They also feature a matte finish so there is no glare from layout lighting.  I also made a new video to demonstrate the characteristics of each material in more detail, including what happens when they get wet.

Finally, we are about to roll out a new adhesive polyester product that is pretty impressive.  It shares the same qualities as the adhesive vinyl, but can also be removed from your mounting surface and re-applied.  This offers a little more forgiveness, while maintaining the convenience of peel and stick.

Thanks

Dave Burgess

Thanks for the update ...

... you should include a link to your website in your signature (or somewhere).

It is good to see advertiser's taking advantage of the forums to announce new products and "keep in touch" with the hobbyists ....  That is one of the real strong points to the digital format. it is nearly real time and easy to update.

Question ... for the non-adhesive vinyl backdrops, do you have a recommended method/adhesive for attaching them to the wall/back board?

Attaching

Hi Dave,

I recommend either the use of a spray adhesive mounted on masonite or the use of a vinyl wallpaper paste.  Some folks have also used double sided tape for less permamanent applications.  I even know a couple who used glue sticks, though this would likely only work on the smaller backdrops due to weight.

John, the newest ones are toward the bottom of the Farms and Fields page and the General Scenes Two page.  We did have a New Arrivals page but seem to have been a bit slow updating that one recently.  I will try to get that going agin as it is helpful for folks who have already browsed the site before, especially as we continue to add scenes.

I thought I had set up the web URL in the digital signature but it appears not. Here it is.

Pennsylvania Backdrops

John,

A couple years ago we took a ride out to Steamtown and to Horseshoe Curve.  Along the way I did a lot of shooting for backdrops.  Those scenes can be found primarily on teh Hills and Mountains Page Two, and a few in teh General Scenes Page One.  Links below.

I'm very happy with Backdrop Junction's product and service

I have their mountain scenes and they did a great job sizing and cropping them for me.

If you need an idea for new

If you need an idea for new ones, how about trying to find an appropriate paper mill scene, with a wood chip, pulpwood stacks or coal piles ?  Some of the industrial ones might work behind some big mill buildings but nothing for those big piles.  Modelers usually don't have the real estate to model them

Good Idea

The paper mill is a great idea.  There are some mill buildings a couple hours from us that we will be visiting when the weather gets better.  I do have a lumber mill scene that has been pretty popular.

Paper, Cardboard, etc.

I would also be interested in a paper mill background, or similar operations such as cardboard and such.  I have a kraft paper mill planned for my layout.

Adjacent to that will be a plywood mill.  I'll have a big warehouse type building in the foreground with a loading track inside, and I'll need process structure in the background.

Many railroads in Appalachia

Many railroads in Appalachia follow rivers with steep mountains just beyond a narrow valley. If you ever get the chance to shoot some summer scenes from a boat along the river looking toward the shore it would be great.

Ricks layout is a great advertisement for your company, it really shows off your product well.

A paper mill from the water

A paper mill from the water side would be impressive too.

Have a great one near where I live I keep meaning to go shoot from my kayak. Shots from shore always seem to have a tree branch or lots of marsh grass in the way.

Something like this about 10-12 feet long would be impressive with the foreground cropped out.

Where is that?

I have a unique ability to fly most places in the US for free.  Where is this?

I thought it might have been

I thought it might have been PH Gladfelter in Spring Grove, PA, but it's not.  But that is a place you could check out.

That's West Point, Va, about

That's West Point, Va, about 40 miles east of Richmond. Easy drive from the Richmond airport down I to US30.  The whole mill is 3/4 of a mile long.
