It's time to start up this weeks photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Boo!

Here's some very early power I did many, many moons ago - like the early 90's -- for my layout when I was going to school.

Obvious Utah Belt influence eh?

First bridge complete

I finally completed basic scenery for my first bridge scene today at Walnut Creek.  I still need to return to touch up the backdrop seams and add trees, but I plan to complete those tasks in bulk once I finish all the backdrop pics throughout the layout.  Doing the honors on this westbound grain extra are a pair of new Intermountain IAIS ES44ACs, fresh out of the box.

Andrew and Joe, that's a great start!

Here is my weekly entry. A Robby Putnam Car behind an CN Sweep from Tom Cox on a Rodney Walker Diorama. On this picture the CNW Car from Gary is almost hidden but I've allready showed that stunning Car several times here on the Forum.

Grass

I'm sure the loco and cars are top notch Jürg, but what really makes me happy is the "gardening" in this photo. Really impressive!

Great modeling

Boy Nice start

Andrew, Joe, Jurg, and James, Great trains and scenes. Hobbes, I spent my summers with my Dad fishing on the Cape, and you really captured the look of a breakwater, and in N gauge.

Beautiful work

Andrew Joe Jurg James and Hobbes - that's up there with the best water I've seen.

Chilly night at the depot, where things are so quiet the track has pretty much been claimed as part of the yard.

Resin cars and operations can mix

Wanting to know how well a car built from a resin kit would hold up on a transportable layout with lots of guest operators, I put a single resin boxcar into the Operations Road Show fleet five years ago. It has held up perfectly, and actually better than some of our Intermountain and Red Caboose cars.

I think the fact that it started out with wire stirrups helped its durability somewhat.

Beautiful!

Beautiful work everyone.  Phil, I agree with Mike, that's some of the best water I've ever seen.  My stream doesn't appear as glossy as I'd like with just the one coat of Mod Podge, so I'm going to use the inspiration of your photo to try to improve it.  Maybe another coat or three of Mod Podge, then a sealing coat of acrylic furniture varnish.

Mike, I love your yard scene!  Am I seeing a detailed interior in your yard office?  I always enjoy your lighting effects.

Mabel the Mallet in Mortimer - Mmm..

A brilliant start to the week.......

Jurg and Mikec particularly like the (very contrasting examples of) thoughtful lighting.

Something a little more mundane:

Wow...

Jurg, that photo is amazing...hard to say if it's real or a model!

Rob, I can smell the fresh mountain air and coal smoke in this photo...outstanding!

Just to keep the 'steam vibe' on a roll, here's my contribution this week:

 HI Mike  Joe.  Thank you

HI Ray, Mike  Joe.  Thank you for the kind   words regarding  the water.

What i did  was used Mod  Podge. And then for the last few coating Iused Liquidtex Glazing Medium. What the Liquidtex does is seals the Mod Pod Podge ( As I found  Mod  Podge collects dust after awhile)

And adds more gloss than Mod Podge.

Wolf River

Really nice addition to the week Kevin.  Your layout and modeling surely prove that one does not need the basement empire to be impressive and satiating to the modeling whims and wishes.

Some pics

It's the day after Samhain, and I did some railfanning yesterday...seems that someone's traded his pale horse for the iron horse...

I first spotted this train sitting in the yard, though she already had a load of passengers--she was apparently waiting for the intermodal to run by.  The passengers looked a bit strange...

w%281%29.JPG

Hurrying down the road, she made a stop at the coal mine--odd place for a passenger consist to stop, but I got a good pic.

GEDC0977.JPG

It seems my camera was working poorly at the mine--I KNOW I didn't take a double exposure...seems something's not all there...

%20there.JPG

I did a little bit of digging in some archives, and found this old pic from some time ago...

%20Photo.JPG

On the same railfanning trip, I saw a couple of older cars sitting on a siding.  Quite old, especially the coach, but clearly still moved, as there are no weeds or anything growing betwern the ties.

20stock2.jpg

It was a relief to see something unusual that's not also supernatural...

I'll have to find out more about the Black Train, and document in--perhaps in time for Samhain next...

CPR MLW Booster B-101

IMG_0442.JPG

The most recent addition to my CPR Montreal Terminals Division is this booster, B101.  CPR had four such units built by Montreal Locomotive Works.  The B101 in the era I am modeling (1968) ran with two S-2's and was used on the St. Luc Yard hump.  My railway does not have a hump but any serious modeler of the CPR in Montreal in 1968 must have one, even it is for flat switching.  This unit was masterfully scratchbuilt by Mark Roach starting with a Proto 2000 S-3.

Ops

From last night's session, mainline engineer Jack Chase brings Extra 3546 West down the hill into Lakeview.  On the opposite side of the aisle, Lakeview yardmaster Duane Grey gets ready for the train to come in to pick up five westbounds before proceeding to Elko.
