Fast Tracks

Hi,

Since it rained here last weekend and I was suitably dissapointed, I spent the day working on a rebuild of a boxcab for my Bronx Terminal layout.

I took several pictures of the work so far, which has been focused on replacing the drive with a NWSL PDT.

I bought this loco on eBay in the spring after someone who had been watching my blog let me know about the auction.  These Astro Craft models are a dead match for the GE/IR Oil-Electric loco that CNJ used at the Bronx Terminal starting in 1928.

This was actually the first non-steam engine built and used anywhere in North America, and the CNJ 1000 unit still exists at the B&O Museum in Baltimore.

I set up a gallery of images and captions that can be viewed at the link below...

CNJ 1000 Boxcab rebuild

Wow! The Bronx Terminal is a subject I don't know to much about but I can imagine how important that area was as I used to work near there. I never saw any trains but that wasn't for lack of wanting and trying to. Can you tell me some more about it or direct to a place where I can find out more?

Amazing

Tim,

It's great seeing some NJ history being preserved there, let alone in 2 scales!

Nice work

I have followed your progress over time.. I can't remember where I saw you posting images of that trackwork before but it is great stuff and inspires me to learn to do hand trackwork. That boxcab is a wonderful complement. I can't wait to see the structures and layout come together!
