BNSF GP35 2504

Funnily enough I was intending to model the same loco in its current LTEX guise, not sure if it's seen any active service since the move to Larry's but it's one of ony 4 or 5 that didn't have the headlight moved to the nose so less work to do. I'm using a 2nd hand Kato as it's a good match for my my Atlas Alco fleet, whats the base model of your GP35? superb weathering !

Great models, great photography

Your model photos belong to the best I've ever seen! Are these scenes parts of a greater layout or separately modeled dioramas?

Dioramas

Hello Joern

Thanks for your nice comment. Those are all different Dioramas, somtimes I've changed only the background and the whole Diorama have a new look. When I work with Stefan Foerg who build the Diorama, I give him my Idea that I've in mind and he try to build it as close as possible. I takes many month until we booth are pleased with the result

Temporary dioramas

Jürg,

In the meantime, I visited your blog and read the other entries. In particular, I like the idea of a fake diorama. It's similar to what I call temporary dioramas. These dioramas are just temporary photo scenes in which real models blend with virtual backgrounds, either real photos or screenshots from computer games. Still far away from your level of modeling, I'm still experimenting with different techniques. Some pictures, you find in this Flickr album:

What a great video!

Congrats Jurg on producing a wonderful video (great selection of music too) and to all the weatherers whose work was featured - undoubtedly amongst the best to be seen anywhere.

Fake Diorama

@Joern, the small Diorama with the mirror effect has the possibility of many different backgrounds. A grey Wall with rusty pipes or the Walthers Bud's Trucking background or just a small hill with gras. I love to play with different angles until I'm satisfied with the Result.

@Tony, I'm glad you like the movie.

Fake diorama

Jürg,

That's a very nice idea. In my fake dioramas, I only used different background pictures but no exchangeable modeled backgrounds. However, I will keep this idea in mind for coming projects.

I have just created a blog entry on my fake dioramas: https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/temporary-dioramas-12197681

Printshop

Joern, do you print your Backgrounds by your self or do you use an Printshop?

Printshop

Jürg,

The backdrop of the layout I presented in my blog entry https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/tt-scale-us-layout-12197634, I got printed in a printshop. The backdrops of the smaller dioramas presented in the Flickr albums at https://www.flickr.com/photos/jpachl/sets/72157646040111076/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/jpachl/sets/72157634975866844/, I printed by myself on an inkjet printer. The backdrops of most of my temporary dioramas do not exist in reality but were just added by photo editing on a computer. The only exception is the Russian railroad scene that has a paper backdrop, which is a cutout from a commercial product.

Yesterday, I created a small blog entry on my temporary dioramas: model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/18937

Regards,

Joern

Video

So, you are just a photographer/videographer?  None of the models presented are your own work, correct?  The models were done by others and the dioramas were built by others?

@JKtrains

Guilty as charged! But I don't like "just a photographer/videographer" because it's not that easy to make everything looks right.

Definitely

The photography in Jurg's work is an art in itself, and I know, even if I had the great rolling stock and dioramas he has, my photos would not look nearly as good.  Jurg's photos are kind of a throwback for me of what got me interested in the hobby in the first place - seeing stunning models in photos that I could literally look at for an extended period of time, admiring not only the workmanship of the scenery and rolling stock, but composition of the photo, lighting, etc.  Just great stuff for people like me.
