I did a little detailing on the corner section today and added some grass and coloring to the rocks.  I'll be adding trees in front of the rocks as part of the next step.  If on a computer you can click the picture for a larger view.

Rick,

The illusion of distance and color balance between the foreground scenery and background is spot on! Nice job!

Looking Good

Rick - your foreground scenery is blending wonderfully with the backdrop; I'm impressed.
Hope to see much more of this - I'm busy thinking around backdrop issues, so the more inspiration the better.

Wow....

I think it looks great Rick and I'm normally not that big a fan of photo backdrops. Looks to me though like you have an excellent transition between the two.  If I recall, you used an airbrush to make that haze on your backdrop right?  I know that took some guts but I think the effect is really convincing.

Great job! Certainly isn't in Florida, but who cares? Very well done and come out west and teach the rest of

Peek-a-boo

Seeing the tops of the buildings over the ridge creates a tantalizing effect - they are just the right scale to make my brain totally buy the illusion of distance and depth. The colors, the distant haze, the bright skyline, masterful! Nice work.

Thank you all

I appreciate your kind words!  It's fun to work on the railroad and see things start to take form.

It does make a very nice scene ...

Where are the tracks?

The tracks...

Dave O. - if you look in the lower right corner of the picture you can barely see the end of a section of track that is now a scenic railway track that continues on around the the other side of the layout and ends just before Buck and Loretta's place.  It will have a shuttle control with a tourist train.  Out of view of the picture towards the front is the mainline track that will pass in front of Palmer Asbestos.

ah ... got it.

That backdrop really is very good quality.  I honestly had to go back to your other blog entry to see if the flags were part of the backdrop or part of the scenery ....  Thanks for sharing.
