JLandT Railroad

This month I came across this rare gem, I was searching eBay like I normal do and came across a "rare" Athearn RDG (all green) SW1500 switcher numbered 2763, for some your thinking what's so rare?  For a Reading modeler in Australia its rare, rare as hens teeth.

I know this is rare because I have not seen one advertised anywhere since starting the layout around four years ago.  I have another RDG (yellow #2766) SW 1500 switcher that I purchased here in Australia about a year into the build, but have not seen any others since.

I checked the Athearn website and these where produced around 2009, and came in three road numbers.  After doing a little research I found out that this switcher was originally all yellow and was involved in a wreck then rebuilt, during the rebuild it was repainted in the all green RDG scheme.  So now I also have a great switcher and one with a little history behind it too.

So once this arrives here in Australia (Thanks Alan!) it will be getting Soundtraxx Tsunami Sound and some details parts and light weathering.  This will take my fleet of SW1500 for the RDG to two, until the arrival of the Broadway Limited SW1500's in the next month or two.

Sounds like an article on how to up grade a factory engine.

Possibly Joe...

I've researched the upgrade and there is a bit in this, and to prepare it for an article would be quite a commitment. I'll see how we go when it arrives. Jas...

I was looking for some more

I was looking for some more Virginian Train Masters on the Web and found one and needed another. Started out with the idea that I would buy what every gold series Atlas units I could with the idea of repainting them. Bought an SP unit and a Reading Unit. One of my fellow club members also had a Reading unit and wanted to swap for the SP. I will be trading body shells. After I bought those two I then find a Virginian no Sound with a road number I do not have so I had to buy it and now I will be trading shells and only have to paint one of the others. I will likely resell one of the reading units and maybe both if I find another Virginian Unit.

Just thought you might find it interesting that I ended up with 2 reading units one in the green scheme and one in the green and yellow like your switcher.

Sometimes it's an option...

To buy like you have, close to what you want to either swap or repaint. I've got undecorated before because I couldn't find RDG boxcars, so I did my own. I've even had a undecorated Kato GP35 done in the yellow/green scheme. The green RDG you have isn't a GP40-2 #3675 is it?

That last picture reminds me

That last picture reminds me of a trolley that I won on ebay and the seller did not pack it properly.

No, it is a Fairbanks Morse H-24-66 Trainmaster. Those have become my favorite locomotives for running long trains. They run smooth after cleaning and lubrication, and a trip on decoder pro to program them. The units have sound and lots of traction and power. Two units have pulled 122 car trains through curves as tight as 28 inches and up grades that are as steep as 4% in places. Really excellent runners.

Thanks Dave...

Will do, I've done an Atlas Silver Series - MP15 before but these are designed to have sound (Gold Series) and the speaker fits in perfectly with no alterations. The Athearn is going to require some mods. Jas...

RDG #2763 is on the layout...

Well I finally received my latest lot of "goodies" yesterday from eBay.  Special thanks needs to go out to Alan, who is the greatest USPS ambassador in MI!

Here is a quick couple of photos of it on the layout...
