I'm going to be in San Diego over Labor Day weekend.  I'd love to be able to get to get to run a train at the Model RR Museum, on ANY of the layouts there.

Does anybody on these forums have an 'in' at the museum?

I'd greatly appreciate any opportunity!

Thanks in advance.

Club Contact Info

I don't have any personal connections, but you could try contacting one of the clubs that have a layout in the museum. Here is the link to the museum website with their info:

Good luck. If you are able to actually do this, be sure to tell us about it!

Nope

You don't need an "in".  They have regular hours and the volunteers are very friendly.

I agree with Joe

Last time I was there on business I spent an afternoon in the museum.  Started chatting up one of the members of the La Mesa club (they to Tehachapi in HO).  Next thing I know I'm ducking into their almost functional CTC machine room, walking around behind the yard glass, and getting introduced to other club members as if I was "special."  I suspect if I had had more time - and a loco or two - I could have stayed and operated well into the evening.

If it's your first visit, I'd focus on just seeing as much as you can while you're there.  It takes a fair four-five hours just to see everything, I wouldn't worry too much about running.

Going to have 2 days.....

I've been once, but it was a while ago.  I'm going to have Friday and Sunday open, that's why I'm hoping to get behind the scenes.

Thanks

It might be a good time to see if you can possibly contact someone and plan to have an insider willing to get you in. Maybe take some video equipment and work on an article for MRH and get inside and compensated at the same time, not to mention sharing it with the rest of us.
