So here are some up date pictures of my layout. Like I said earlier, it is not up to the level of most of the work I have seen on this site. But because of some of the work and advice I get on this site, my work is better than it would have been.

At this point I am beginning scenery and a back drop. Of all of the things I have had to learn over the last 3 years, scenery and (especially) the back drop are the most intimidating. I truly believe that having an eye for scenery and painting is an art. And I do not consider myself an artist in the least. I am reading a lot and watching videos. All I can do is try. It is a hobby, and it is meant to be fun.

I have found that my fear of not having done something before seems to really stop me. I really found this to be true when it came to air brushing. It has taken a while, but I have been getting some good results. But I still feel the back drop will be different. I have never gotten this far on a layout, so it is all new to me every time I start a new level of layout development.

Well here are some pictures...

Now lets see if I can remember how to post pictures.

PS. To the people who sent well wishes and encouragement... thank you very much. I live in Los Angeles California. If I ever get to Texas or back East I will be sure to drop by.

Nice work on the railroad

Very good work Jim. Thanks for posting the photos. I don't remember if you posted a track plan or not, track work looks like it will flow very nicely. Your structure models look very nice, I actually have some of the same ones you do and I hope my buildings turn out as well as yours have.

Looks like you have an SP themed layout can you describe the plan and area you are building? Since it looks like two levels from the photos are you having staging as well and how did you incorporate all of that?

I have found that by posting here I am able to pick up several good habits from fellow posters by interacting with them on the web. I have done the same with members of my club many of which have some extraordinary talents.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks

Yes Rob it is an SP/SF railroad. It is modeling Bakersfield to Tehachepi. Staging is under the level shown. There will be 2 more levels when I am done. The last bit of staging will be on the patio (enclosed) with a return loop. Those building look pretty good when they are done (card stock), but the instructions are a little hard to follow. Sometimes I have just had to go with my gut. I am hoping to start the second level (third) this summer, but I have to get some of the scenery done first. Thanks again.
