Arrowhead was 31 miles south of Revelstoke im the BC interior, at the north end of the Arrow Lakes (part of the Columbia River). S.S. Minto was a CPR sternwheeler that served communities up and down the Lakes. At Arrowhead it connected with a daily mixed train to Revelstoke, where passengers connected to the transcontinental main line trains.Unfortunately, all this is under water today, since the Columbia River was dammed further south in the 1950s. .

Very, very nice modeling. Not so keen on the PS work but the modeling is fantastic.

Great Work

Brian,

Great work as always.

I am building a similar scene on my layout, roughly based on Arrowhead, but mine will be circa 1929. Hope it turns out half as nice as yours.

How long, in actual inches, did the Minto turn out to be? I would like to build a model but don't have space for one!

I really like the water you

I really like the water you did. Looks real not a piece of glass laying on wood.

S.S. Minto

Hi Brent

Thanks for your comments and everyone else's.

The model of the Mnto is 26 inches long, which is full size in HO.. You might be able to selectively compress by about one third without losing the essential character of the vessel. Plans for her sister ship (the S.S. Moyie) used to be available from the town museum in Nakusp BC. The Moyie has been preserved at Kaslo, so photographing her details (which are mostly similar to those of the Minto) is possible. There are photos of the Minto in several books on the BC interior. I can post more photos of the model if you are interested.

Regards,

Brian Pate.

S.S. Minto

Hi Brent (and anyone else).

There's a rather nice little film by the NFB on the last run of the S.S. Minto. You get at it by Googling on "S.S. Minto". It turns up some photos too.

S.S. Minto

Thanks Brian,

I have those plans for the Moyie, picked them up several years ago but never worked out how large it would be in HO scale!

I would have to build an extension on to the layout to fit the Minto in next to my barge. I am tempted to get the kit by Interaction Hobbies for the CR Lamb, its a little more modest in size. But I have lots of projects on the go, am building a Kettle Valley passenger set as per Gib Kennedy in the 1959 MR article. That is going to take some time to complete. even though I am cheating and using some La Belle and Bethlehem Car works kits as a starting point. Plus I have a bunch of your car kits that I need to put together!

Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
