Ties

I use 3/32" square basswood and sand it to the correct height. This allows for any slight variations in the sub-roadbed. As for the posting questions, see this post on the MRH website:  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/help/fix-ie10-no-line-breaks-issue.

That's a problem with later versions of Internet Explorer (e.g. IE 10).  I'm not sure about other browsers.  If you're using IE, try clicking on the compatibility mode icon at the top of the browser window (the torn piece of paper).  That should restore your ability to use editor features and use the ENTER key.

wooden ties?

Depends on the scale and how the turnout is constructed. for spiked turnouts the wood needs to be something that takes spikes well, for PC board soldered turnouts the filler ties can be just about anything. I've cut my own ties for O and S scale and I've bought ties for HO scale from Kappler and Mt. Albert and for my latest N scale layout I just cut them from a piece of veneer with a razor blade. What scale are you working it and what is the turnout construction  method, roadbed, etc.? ......DaveB

Ties

I used Micro Engineering pre-stained ties.  Very happy with them for the most part, but for some reason, the latest bag of switch ties has been bleeding stain when they get wet during ballasting.  Not a huge deal, as ballast color tends to vary around prototype turnouts anyway, but something to watch out for.
