Mark Dance
Hi everyone...

Inspired by the recent excellent videos I saw of a N scale Sand Patch layout, I went and got myself a Looxcie "wearable" video camera.  After two weeks of messing with bad memory cards, faulty desktop software settings and, last but definitely not least, my inexperience with my wife's iPad I got the system up and running yesterday.  Many, many thx to excellent the Looxcie support team.

The photo below shows the sled I made up for it to push it around the layout.  The bottom of the sled rides on the top of N scale rails which lowers the center of gravity, reduces wobble and allows the device to fit inside an NMRA standard guage profile.

It works pretty well.  Here are a couple of videos taken with it should you be interested.  I plan to use the camera primarily to insert interesting cab shots into more standard model videos of the  layout.

I hope you enjoy them and thx for looking!

480?

Curious why you didn't upload the original 1080p video so we could take the ride in full HD quality.

480 reply...wish it were 1080p

I would be happy to, and then repost the links, if someone would show me how to do it .  I am not familiar enough with how to change the Youtube settings and I didn't find a primer for this on the web.  My apologies if I am missing something obvious...I would be a very receptive student!

HD on YT

It is as simple as uploading the 1080 version. YT will automatically re-render to lower resolutions. It would appear you uploaded a 480p video.

Check the recording settings on your camera.

thank you for the instruction!  I will optimize next time.

The scenery looks great from the cab view.

The right of way looks very realistic.  If this type of camera view becomes common we'll have to start dressing up the underside of our benchwork and lighting to look like sky :> ) ........DaveB

short(er) 1080p enablevideo now posted...refining the experiment

OK, I chopped the middle third out of the larger video and rendered it at 1080.  It has now been posted to Youtube and will allow you to select 1080 HD output by clicking on the "gear" and selecting "1080" in the bottom right corner of the Youtube pane.

The video shows from Slide Bridge to Farron Summit on CP's Boundary subdivision circa 1970.

You can also go right to the Youtube page at should you wish to see it in a larger format.

Hope you like it!

1080

Mark,

I think you still have a hitch in your giddy up. The video appears to be a 1080 rendering of a lower resolution original. HD should be crisp especially when viewed in a YT smaller sized player. I'm guessing your camera has capture size options and it is set for less than 1080. It could also be that this is the best image quality the camera has to offer.

Still, it is enjoyable to take the cab ride around your layout. Glad you posted it.

Inspiring Video

I have really enjoyed your videos and I have to say that is one great layout.   I look forward

to seeing more.   I didn't realize it was n-scale till the end of the video.    This has to be the

nicest n-scale layout I have seen.

Thank you Dennis for the very

Thank you Dennis for the very kind words!

I hope to finish off the three remaining high bridges on the second level within then next 4-5 months.  At that point I will re-shoot a cab ride video over the full 7 scale miles of which about 5.5 will be scenic'd.  That might be a very long video...maybe 25 minutes.  Will have to run the locos faster than the prototype me thinks...
