I am having some trouble navigating this site. Just yesterday I saw an amazing post or blog about someone kitbashing D&H steam engines. Someone asked for an update on his progress, that was how I came across it. Now I can't find it. I don't know who it was that wrote the article and using the search yielded unsatisfactory results. So my question is twofold: What am I doing wrong and how can I find that post? Thanks in advance for any help.

searching

searching on the MRH forum is not very good right now.

If the content was seen in the last few days, you can look back through the recent posts link, which is found on the right side of this page.

And you can try google, limiting your search to this website:

Recent posts can also be accessed via the "Posts index" link at the bottom left corner of every page.  Sometimes that's easier for me to access, since, on a PC, I can just Cntl-End to quickly get that link in view.

So, inquiring minds want to know, boatman909, how you found that post so quickly?  How to search is the question as much as finding that information.

Google Searches.

So you guys are saying to search with Google instead of within the MRH web site.  Then is the base serach something like the following?

https://www.google.ca/search?q=site:model-railroad-hobbyist.com

I have no clue how to go on from there.  Yeah, I'm software challenged, big time.

Google Advanced Search

You can use Google to search only a specific site by including a site operator in your search phrase. This works on any web site but for MRH you would use something like this:

kitbash steam site:model-railroad-hobbyist.com

Alan

All the details:  http://www.LKOrailroad.com        Just the highlights:  MRH blog

If the search box isn't doing it, use Google

If the search box isn't doing it for you, then use Google. In the specific case mentioned, in Google type:

mrh "d&h"

You will get a great list of all the D&H-related posts on here. I put the d&h in quotes because any search string that has special characters could confuse the search engine. Putting such a string in quotes tells the search engine to not try to do anything special with the odd characters, just treat it as plain text.

If you stick mrh in front of any search in Google, it puts the content on this site at the front of the search results.

The current search box on this site is weak - it misses things. An upgrade is in the works for later this year - we're looking at either using a local site-based Google plugin or to use a third-party search module that is also much stronger.

Google

Note that just including "mrh" in the search on google does not limit the search to MRH's site.

As Alan and I have indicated, using the site modifier will limit the results to MRH only.

It would look like this on google's page:

(note, the first result is an advertisment)

So yes, if you use this link to open the google page ( https://www.google.ca/search?q=site:model-railroad-hobbyist.com) you'll be all set to search the MRH site
