Been a lurker her for a while and decided to post my layout here. The FWWR is a small short-line here in the N. Texas are based out of the DFW area. It interchanges with the BNSF, UP and KCS. The area that i have decided to model is a large industrial park that the railroad serves. Since I want to be able to learn operations and really like this railroad this area really appeals to me.

From what I have been able to find out, the FWWR does interchange with the other railroad and make up the Everman Job at there home yard, Hodge Yard. They then send a train about 20 miles to the Everman Park. There is a small yard for the area for sorting cars and switching moves of approximately 20 industries.

My plan starts from the approach to the yard and encompasses most of the park.

This is the 3rd generation of this area. I recently acquired the second small room to the left when my youngest moved out. So I tore out most of the old bench work and have started over. Currently have about half of the bench work redone and have started laying track.

Hope you enjoy.

Looks great!

Looks great Wayne. A very interesting track plan with lots to keep a crew busy! Not overcrowded at all.

How will you deal with operating that yard that goes thru the wall?
I think that would drive me bonkers.
Any chance on removing the wall between the yard and the door?

I'd like to invite you to post your track plan in the Trackplan database thread:

Nice layout

Hey wane, looks good. I grew up in Ft Worth myself, back before the FWWR. There was an article on the FWWR in one of the RR mags some time last year. I've got a copy at home and can get you the info if you like. I'm using it for some ideas on my line listed in my Sig. Good luck with your layout.

My arms got too short so I've switched to G scale. Old steam and early diesel are my choice of loco. Scratch built is better.

Sorry Bill but no. That doorway was already in the wall just reopening it. I live in a old house that was put together many years ago, there are areas that i am not sure what they were trying to do so they just added on. I'm afraid to remove that short wall, it might fall apart. All I did was cut a hole, approx 15"x20" so the yard could go thru. I was trying to hide the opening early on in the design but nothing fit the way the two room were. Yes its a pain, but it a compromise I decided to make.

Here it is from one room:

Headers

Cancel that. I see there is electrical in the wall there. So please ignore my suggestion.

Original Post:

It wouldn't take a lot of effort to put in a header as a beam to open that space up a bit.

You could easily go 7 ft wide.

Checking with a local tradesman wouldn't hurt of course and if there is electrical in that wall it becomes a bit more complicated

Food for thought:

FWWR

Wane, If you don't have it, look for  Railfan & Railroad magazine from Aug of 2012. It has a article on the FWWR and some pictures you may be able to use for ideas. They may have it on their web site.  http://www.railfan.com

I have a couple of articles that the various publications have done on the FWWR, I will check if I have that issue but pretty sure I do. I've been documenting this area for the past 8 years, since i moved here from CA. This layout is based on this area. Some things have changed to fit my area but its pretty close. I've taken lots of picture of structures and track to hopefully come up with results I want. With my drafting background I have been making plans of the structure. So when i am ready to start building I can create a accurate representation of them.

Hope that this weekend I can get some work done. Spent the last 6 weeks getting my daughter ready to graduate from Texas A&M and into her new place, so not much progress.

"the approach to the yard and encompasses most of the park"

I like the uncluttered nature of the design, it looks very realistic. Do you have car storage shelves by the workbench staging track? .DaveBranum
