Is anyone currenly producing an EMD SW1 diesel switcher in HO?  I believe Walthers did a few years ago but apparently not now.

Nope.

The Walther's ones tend to go fast whenever they end up someplace for sale. It is definitely on a lot of wish lists though.

One here:

Looks like a good deal, private seller, reasonable shipping.

DCC Conversion

It appears that it can be done but has anyone have experience converting a Walthers EMD SW1 to DCC/sound?  Did Walthers produce this diesel in SP livery?

DCC/SP

The original runs included at least an SP bloody nose red/gray version. I've seen one DCC'd with an N-scale decoder up in the cab roof -- this was several years ago when decoders were larger. Adding a speaker would probably require milling out space in the frame.

Added: Interesting what you can turn up typing "Walthers SW1" into Google. Looks like there was also a Tiger Stripe version which looks pretty good. Go to: http://espee.railfan.net/spsw01-m.html

I have a BN version that ran beautifully after Walther's universal joint modification was installed. The plastic tubing supplied with the initial runs was far too stiff. Too bad UP never had an SW1.

SW-1 to DCC

My friend Dave Ramos has one that our friend Craig converted to DCC using a TCS decoder. No sound, not a lot of rrom, not to mention the very archaeic motor design, making DCC installation a little trickier than usual.
