Do you paint the turnout Flag

Really like your videos. Will get some of my own some day.

Okay the (I think I got the name right) flag on the physical throw does it have a paint scheme? I am R&G color blind yet would like to paint the flag (which I will probably paint white for the main line and yellow for the side track).

turnout flag?

Maybe you are thinking of the target on a switch stand.  This is usually painted red, and would only face the oncoming direction when the switch was "reversed," or thrown against the main route.  Later on they went for smaller targets which were reflective at night, and would show green or yellow for the normal route and red for reversed.  Ground throws, on the other hand, frequently had no targets, or sometimes had a small one only a foot high or so.  The crews would look at the position of the points to see which way it was thrown, and these would never be used on the open main.

For modelers using ground throws for everything, there is no target.  Some people will paint the sides of the throw handle either red or green to show which way it's lined.

Thanks Jurgen

The vocabulary is hard to get used to. Does make sense to call it a target not a flag., as if I was going to shoot it.

Thanks

PAINT

hello mudbug

you bring up a good point & to be honest i never even though of painting them. if i do decide to paint them & only the ones on the main, i will probably follow jurgens advice. another thing i have to consider is the fact that i might be moving & if that happens i will rebuild the layout but this time i will use the 40 or so tortoise machines.

it would be nice to know your name
