I have been unable to view the Jan. issue. I have used two different computers, two different browsers and two different operating systems, successfully logged in and still can't view the Jan. issue.

This is Not the full version

The Embedded version doesn't come out until Jan 14 so don't bother trying to get it yet but you can load the standard edition but with no extras or bonus down loads until Jan 14.

There is still plenty to see and read including a list of the winners of the $500.00 Beginners RR Contest and you can see the grand prize winners layout in full.

Slow page turning

I just tried reading this issue, and found the animated page turning excruciatingly slow. I'm using full screen mode on a Dell Inspiron 546 with Win 7 on a AMD LE-1300 2.3 GHz 64 bit processor with 4 GB of RAM. I tried both servers with the same results. Is there a way to turn off the animation. It's cute but it gets old quickly.

Thanks.

When is the embedded version available?

Hi All;  I've been waiting to download the embedded version, as per usual and it hasn't been offered yet.  Is there a problem?

I believe it is now available. Select "Get Current issue" selectable on the right of the blogs page. It is available in both portrait and landscape format. To select landscape, scroll down the "Get current issue" web page. Hopefully, you can use the flash wizard to select it. If not, I believe there is an alternate link supplied by Joe Fugate.

I hope this will help you.

Disappointing

I finally got to look at the January issue, the embedded version.  Rather disappointing to say the least.  As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I use the latest version of Adobe Reader and when I opened the file, the thing I noticed right away was how small the portrait version of the magazine is.  I couldn't click on any pictures to increase their size and the type was small.  I had a whole screen available yet all I got was 1/3 of my screen showing the magazine in a strip down the middle.  Most disappointing.

I don't use social media nor do I feel the need.  I get by fine with my little cell phone and Skype on my desktop.  Snail Mail ain't that bad, either.  I am reasonably proficient with computers, have no problems with my computer and I really enjoyed reading the magazine in the old format.  I don't need fluff.  I do want a clear, easy to read and use publication.  Call me old and cranky but I have neither the time nor the inclination to start learning new stuff on my computer just to read a magazine.....my hobby is Model Railroading, not computers.  I'd much rather spend what little time I have left modeling.

I will continue to peruse the magazine, but can't take the extra time to read everything as I used to because it is now so small.  Sorry guys, that's how I see it.  Evidently greater minds than mine decided that the 'old' way just wasn't good enough anymore.  For who I wonder?

Can't get January issue.

I have been trying to view the new January issue on line but all I get is a grey screen. It doesn't have any writing at all. When I try to download ,Adobe reader says the file is corrupt and will not open. I have been reading MRH since issue #1 but if this is what GEN 2 is going to be like count me out. I am not going to waste my time trying over and over again to gain access to a product that was working just fine for me until now. I have tried to download both imbedded and non imbedded versions in landscape to my computer.

Sounds like your flash player is corrupt

You didn't say, but we will assume you are on a PC or a Mac. If so, then sounds like your Flash Player is corrupt. The online edition on computers uses Flash still, but it uses HTML5 on mobile devices. The online download wizard also uses Flash. If your Flash player is corrupt, then you would get the behavior you're describing where the online edition won't display and the download wizard will give you a garbage download.

You have a couple options to get a version of MRH you can read.

First, you can try the green button download instead of the red button downloads. On the download page, click the green button instead:

Second, you need to get your Flash player problem fixed if  you ever want to read the online version successfully on a computer (until we finally move completely to HTML5, that is).

To replace your corrupt Flash player, follow these steps:

  1. Quit all open programs. This step is important because other programs may be using the Flash Player, and if they are, the uninstaller will fail silently.
  2. Run the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller.
  3. Reinstall your Flash player.

Once you've corrected your bad Flash player problem, things should start working again. One other thing we highly recommend is that you reboot your computer between these steps, and that all along the way you don't open any other programs while doing these steps.

It's also a good idea to clean house on your browser by flushing the cache. Just go here to learn how to flush your browser cache.

Adobe Flash 11.4 and 11.5 Corrupt for Firefox Users

Joe,

Can your staff of digital magicians provide either an upload of Adobe Flash 10.3 or a non-corrupt version of Flash 11.XX?  I haven't been able to view videos for the pass couple of days after suffering an upload of the current Adobe Flash 11.4 and 11.5 on Thursday.  (within two days of trying the Flash version for Firefox has changed at least four times and still doesn't work.)

Thanks

Download Gremlins.

Did a full reboot of my computer and guess what? The download was perfect. Thanks to the MRH guys for taking the time to respond with their suggestions. Tech support should be that good from the guys we pay the big bucks to.
