Well, we're actually moved to Apopka, Fl. Which is just outside Orlando. Although our new home is crammed full of unopened boxes it doesn't mean that the planning process can't begin on my new railroad. I've asked my good friend and expert designer Scott Perry to do the design which will be loosely based on my good friend Kevin Klettke's wonderful Washington Northern RR.http://wnrr.net/ . I have the same size space as Kevin and since he won't ship me his layout (12ft X 10ft) I guess I'll just have to build my own. Besides being an expert designer Scott is an accomplished blogger. He is tracking the process on his blog along with his own new Augusta railroad he is going to build. You can check out his blog at: http://modelrailroadersnotebook.blogspot.com/. I will also be posting here with much of it being duplicated from Scott's blog. Your input, suggestions, and ideas are welcomed! Needless to say I'm excited!!! Rick

Good news

I am hoping to see the new placement of Hoovertown and Buck & Loretta's place - presuming they will be in context of the new design. Are you planning to keep the flavor of the L&N? I will be missing Misti Mountain (if you gave away the part of the water falls/creeks) - it was such a good example of the forced perspective technique you used. The trestle seemed to fit in to that scene so well.

Yes, Bill

I'll be staying with the L&N and the 1960's. I was able to save Hoovertown, Buck and Loretta's and the trestle. I'm planning on using the first two on the new layout and may use the trestle (or a cut down version) if I can figure how to incorporate it. Parts of Misti Mountain and a rock cut will live on as part of Ken S.'s N scale layout and Paul R's mushroom style layout. This is a real honor for me! Thank you for your kind words about the forced perspective on my layout. Rick

Great News Indeed

Glad to hear that everything went well with the move, Rick, and it's great that you have space for a new layout. Can't wait to start seeing updates on your progress. And as my son is a sophomore at the University of Central Florida, perhaps we'll have a chance to meet in person at some point.

GO RICK!

What wonderful news. Elwood and Maybelle send along a big "Howdeeeee" to you and Buck and Loretta. It will be great to see where their mobile home finally "sets down." I know it will take time, but can hardly wait for the pictures to be posted as progress is being made.

I'm in the process of converting motive power on the Greater Nickel Plate to DCC and fine tuning rolling stock, so progress on landscaping has slowed for the winter. Hopefully a pictorial update will be posted sometime after Christmas. Been busy with the club and the traveling layout at Ft. Hunter for the Holiday Festival that runs from this weekend for the general public and each weekend through Christmas Eve (we make most of our money donations during this event each year).

Stay in touch. I'm always looking to steal great ideas from your layout. . . . .LOL!

Sounds like the guys on here are just as excited about your new layout as you are, and I am one of them. It's great that with all the commotion involved with moving, that you are already thinking "trains".

Since you're in the area

Rick,

Since you're in the area why don't join us in Cocoa Beach this January for the Prototype Rails conference.   http://www.prototyperails.com/

It's a well attended, laid back, quality event and I'm sure you'd have a great time and meet some new folks in your area.
