BOB TRUAX, old Goat

A pleasure to see Bob’s layout on the Magazine, it’s the most complete layout I’ve seen and a highlight of model railroading in the mid Michigan area.  Bob’s a great modeler, his trucks are terrific, too.

*inside joke....eh, Bob?

You sure operate on some great layouts? Andy’s, Dr. Chubb’s and this one. Congrats, you are a lucky model railroader. Envious in Wisconsin

Bob Truax's layout

I visited Bob's layout with a round robin group from Brighton, Michigan several years ago.  I was impressed by the finish of his layout and "train room".

Bob was a very gracious host, and allowed several of our members to operate his layout.

I've always enjoyed the mid-western and northern roads.  I was born in north eastern Kansas in a town full of Union Pacific steam and some diesels.  The UP 9000's were amazing to a 3 year old that was not terrified of them.  I have known several people that model the Great Northern "Goat Trains", and have been very intrigued by them.

Bob's layout is most impressive and well executed.

The Student Becomes the Master

I recall a time when Walter said to me, "The student has become the master."  This was after the layout was completed.  It was a remarkable moment and brought great joy to my ears.  Walter was a remarkable mentor to Bob.  Rita Truax

Exquisite Layout

I was lucky enough to be able to see Bob's layout take shape from the very beginning. Every Thursday night was special. After getting him started with ground cover I had the privilege of painting all those GN green boiler locos. His layout truly is a work of art.
