Hi Matt,Great job!

Hi Matt,

Great job!

If I may, there is an even easier way to do the physical ditch light. Google Shapeways, ditch lights and search Rebel Locomotive has several types of superb plastic ditch lights all ready to insert a 402 LED into and install.  Just ditch lights will display some in N Scale also.  The plastic is very workable with a file or knife but durable for the application.  It is however translucent.  To stop the light I used silver paint then black paint then locomotive color.  If there was any bare wire I coated it with CA or Formula 500 to insulate the wire before painting incase the silver paint was conductive.

Above is the C type.  There are solid and stand up on the deck types also.

Hope this helps.  Thanks for the article.

LED's

While my steam engines don't have ditch lights, I found the info on LED's very interesting and look forward to adding smokebox lighting as well as upgrading head and tail lights. These are so small I think that even marker lights would be possible in my O scale equipment.

Great job! It is always great to see another cyclist modeler as well :- )
