Photo 4 Credit

Somehow I omitted the credit for photo #4 of Randolph station in 1954. Doubly embarrassing since it's easily one of my favorite CV steam era photos.

The photographer was John Swift - the proper citation is "John Swift Photo, Courtesy Central Vermont Railway Historical Society Collection.

My sincere apologies to the Society and (especially) the photographer!

What a coincidence!

Having recently started on my retirement project -- building a prototype CV in the 1950's -- the era that I was raised in VT.  I was searching for information on the audible short detector when I came across the magazine and happened to find this article. It's going to be great to follow in your footsteps. My special part of the project will be to try to build the Barre-Graniteville spur up to the quarries where I lived.

Though I understand...

and concur with why you took out the Paper Mill, I was looking forward in seeing how that scene was going to turn out.  Perhaps it is because I love Paper Mills with the usually associated complicated trackwork.  But if it doesn't fit in with the prototype, it is for the best it be changed like it has.

Looking forward seeing what it looks like when it is totally finished!

Keep up the great work Marty!

Engineer's Problem

I would hate to be the engineer tha explains how I wound up facing another locomotive on the same track (see Photo 10). Otherwise this is a great article.

Marty, I had to go back and

Marty,

I had to go back and reread the article to make sure I was able to keep track of all of your changes. That is a great deal of work for one work session. It sure sounds like you have an excellent group of talented folks to work with in your area. Your work sessions may not be dull but they sure look productive. Thanks for sharing.

I was looking forward to seeing the paper mill also

But the fact that it wasn't "coming together" - despite a lot of thought and time - after two or three years means it was simply the wrong choice for this layout at this time. So it had to go!

Rob, Thanks.

Yes it was a productive work session - it was an all-day session held on a Federal holiday last January. Turns out most of my model railroad friends work for the government in some capacity or another - our wives all work in the private sector. So they had to work - and it was an ideal day for me to host an all-day session on the layout. Amazing how hard model railroaders will work for pizza.....

Glad you enjoyed it.

Perhaps that photo was staged for the Company Photographer ...or maybe Matthew should have read his train orders a little better ....

If you haven't already ….

I highly recommend joining the Central Vermont Railway Historical Society - it's a great source of information on all aspects of the railroad.
