not very useful

I was disappointed with this "article" (and I use that term loosely).  This photo spread seemed like a free advertisement for PWRS.  The features that supposedly differentiate different groups of these hoppers from each other are often not visible in the photos.  I would have found an article that featured prototype photos and then both the PWRS and Intermountain models, with detail shots showing how each matches certain prototypes, to be much more informative.

Product showcase

Product showcase is intended to be primarily visual - and in the portrait version, the images will be smaller, so looking at the issue on a larger screen will be helpful. In both versions (landscape and portrait) we provide a link you can click to see the much larger online image for closer study.

The text that accompanies the product showcase will be mostly about the product and just enough prototype info to give you some idea but not in-depth.

The idea is we get some more product info in your hands, so yes, this is product focused. The product showcase is not intended to be an in-depth prototype info piece.

If you want more information on the prototype, Google is your friend. Now that you know these great models of the Hawker Siddeley Canada 4550 Cubic-Foot Cylindrical Hopper exist, Google "Hawker Siddeley 4550 Cylindrical Hopper" and you will find a weath of information.

Also, the PWRS site is loaded with great info about the subtle differences on these cars. See:

http://www.pwrs.ca/announcements/view.php?ID=2077

The North American Railcar website also has some very good info on these car variations:

http://www.northamericanrailcarcorporation.com/prototype.htm

Like we said, Goggle is your friend. We can never be all things to all people - we just don't have the space. Google will provide you with tons of prototype info on this car. What we provide is what they DON'T provide - very nice 3 dimensional visual studies of the models of these cars.

So study all this online info, and then if you really want to study the models, get on a computer with a nice big screen and spend time with the larger online click-n-spin images looking at them closely from all angles.

Just bought 5 of them

They are very nice indeed and a step above the Intermountain one I have.

Just bought 3 of them...

Based on P.W.R.S's support of MRH and this fantastic spread, I just bought 3 of the NARC cars and have others that I want to buy.

They look fantastic!

Woa Partner!

I clicked on the 3D spin thing, and the car flew around so fast it was nearly a blur! I tried to hit the pause button,to stop half way, but it was so fast I couldn't catch it. I'm reading on an iPad mini, if that makes any difference. PWRS does make a nice car, and offers large sets with different numbers, but beware the shipping fees, best to make a large order to get your money's worth. IMHO

a couple things

Our club just bought 2 dozen of the 70s era Canadian Wheat Board version a short while back.  They are remarkable models.  One thing to be aware of, though, is that they come with extremely narrow tread wheels.  These wheels look very good, and the trucks are very free rolling, however we found them very susceptible to tracking problems due to any wide gauge in the track.  This is not normally a problem with commercial track, but we discovered some gauge problems with our handlaid trackage.  It's easily corrected, and will probably solve some other mystery issues once we have the track fixed, but you may want to look out for that.

I believe they also have wider tread wheels available if you want to replace them with more typical code 110 wheels.  Apparently, you can't replace them with other aftermarket wheels because of the design of the axles.

We are hoping they will be doing some other 70s era versions so we can add to our fleet.

On the iPad

On the iPad, scroll down to the bottom of the first spin page and select the JavaScript iPad friendly version. That will give you buttons you can tap to control the spin.

Got Mine!

I just received my Saskatchewan grain cars from Pacific Western Rail Systems today.  What can I say?  WOW!  The details on these are fantastic!

I found the shipping within Canada to be reasonable for the level of service that was provided.  They were shipped expedited and insured, very well packaged and labeled fragile on all sides!

I'm looking forward to my next purchase from P.W.R.S.  Thanks MRH for the great product showcase that brought my attention to this offering.

I'm not sure my amateurish photography skills do these cars justice, but here's a look at what I got!

Knew you'd like them

I put in for a couple of the new Alberta cars coming out, too.  Looking forward to more products and they are reasonably priced when compared to other models.

@ Dave

You were right, I like them a lot.  If money grew on trees I would order  a bunch including some of the Alberta cars.

I don't find the price to be bad at all and apparently I am eligible for a better discount.
