Control Panel Design and Materials
Good day to you all. I am at the point where I need to design and build a control panel for my yard and other turn-outs on my railroad. I've seen the usual use of masonite, plexiglass, and some sheet metal, but I'm looking for other ideas. Form and function and flexiblity (my layout may change down the road) are important. Any unusal materials or ideas, tips and pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Has anyone tried the NOOK from Barnes & Noble?
I was looking at the Nook today. My wife and I are planning a trip to the Maui in October and she usually takes a few books along to read on long flights. With the current carry-on restrictions and what I would consider extra charges for luggage that border on extortion, she has been looking at the Kindle and loading one with a few books to carry on the plane. She has an Ipod touch, but is not impressed with the selection of books offered by Apple, and aparently the Amazon downloads for the Kindle won't work on the Ipod.

Railroad/Marine
Hi Everyone,
It seems that the topic of modeling Marine/railroad is getting in vogue through different media. Here is a short video that I found thru one of the groups which I found very informative. A prototype railroad loading a ferry with more than 8,000 tons of railroad rolling stock within 8 hours. This ferry is impressive, two stories high and don't know how long. I hope you will enjoy it.

I think Kalmbach and Carstens face a dilemma.
If E-publishing is the future of publishing and MRH is successful in leading the way, how does a magazine publisher switch over? At first glance it appears to be easy. Model Railroader could simply be converted into a free e-zine. Their advertising base would support the magazine for a smooth transition without loss of revenue, BUT there is a huge "fly in the ointment". How do you deal with thousands of subscribers who have paid for subscriptions in advance for a magazine that is now free? They could offer the mag online for a price, but with so much

Finally Finished
It took me awhile, but I finally finished reading all of the MRH issues in sequence. I must say that the format that has been developed at MRH is delightfully refreshing. I found the articles informative and interesting. Your ads are unique and I like that. Simple, but eye catching. I can't say that I click on all of them, but I do check out a few in each issue and will continue to do so. If they have what I'm looking for as time goes on, and the "price is right", you can bet I'll order from them.
Question: MRH articles and the NMRA AP Program
All; I was wondering, under the rules as I understand them, the NMRA AP would classify MRH articles as electronic publishing, or would it? Since the magazine(E-Zine) has a publisher and an editor would it count as a circulated magazine? The rules are changing and I don't believe the AP rules have been re-written in response. After all it was a bit easier when we had 5 or more national model railroad magazine to submit to.

Diagrams, Illustrations and drawings - What Good, Free Applications Are There?
I'm working on another article that I want to submit to MRH for appraisal and I need to do some illustrations for it. I am wondering which good, free applications folks are using for this sort of thing.
Joe, what does MRH use for doing diagrams etc.?
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.

How to measure brick building heights
I'm planning on scratch building the home in which I grew up. The last time I was in Louisville, Ky the present owner (who I contacted before the visit) was nice enough to let me measure & photograph her home (my old home). The problem is that I wasn't able to measure the verticle areas, so I don't know the heights. My pictures are high resoltuion so that I can count the number of bricks.
