Advice please on contest models
O.K., I finally took the plunge and entered a structure (my Roy's Safe & Lock) into judging at this past weekend SER convention in Birmingham, AL.. The structure was never built with the intention of entering it into a contest, but there was a challenge between our division and the host division to see who could bring the most models. The model I took is a kitbash of (2) DPM #104 "B.

First off great site you guys have here. My name is Harry 31 and i live in New York i get into ho & n scale trains. I came across this site by misstake but love it so in return i signed up. Any way just a short who i am and a BIG hello to all.
Introducing me
Hello all modelers.
My name is Juan, I'm 33 years, and i live in Medellín, Colombia. I am just starting in rail road modeler world. I like N gauge and I have planned to build a layout ambiented in a sea port without take in mind any particular era.
I my country this is a few known hobby and is so difficult found and buy material so I've get it in online from the USA then all my material is Bachmann or Attlas; by the way, what is the better??

How does one post?
I have made a few posts, and I always write them in MS Word to help me with spelling, grammar, etc. When I copy and paste into this site, I get all the extra metadata the Micorsoft apparently thinks I need (thanks again, Bill Gates!). I have tried a few dfferent ways of doing this from Word, same result.
I end up writing in Word, copying to Notepad to strip out the junk, and pasting into MRH, but then of course I have to put the line breaks, indents, bold, italic and any other tidbits back in.
I just browsed issue #7 online.
I'm using a Vista operating system, and the issue worked perfectly except for the "click & spin" of the CSX diesel. I just got a Quick time screen with a ? mark in the middle of the Q. I suspect that feature may not be activated for the preview version, and plan to download the embedded version to save on Monday. I didn't have time to read everything this morning, but thought I would let you know what I found when I previewed it.
Correction to Department of Corrections
In reading the Department of Corrections article about the Mar-Apr issue, the typist left the c off the first reference to chassis mount...
MRH You guys are awsome
I stumbled upon the MRH website about 6 months ago doing a websearch and I really enjoyed the magazine and the forums are the best. I belong to a model railroad club and I asked around and only one member has heard of MRH from the Hartford show last summer. I contacted MRH about getting some fliers to pass out at the club. Today I recieved a package in the mail containing quite a supply of very nice full color fliers as well as a good supply of CD,s with issues 1-4 2009 and newsletters. I really appreciate this support and am looking forward to having these for our club members.

Fluorescent lighting - warning about increased fading problems
Hello all,
I've heard that using non shielded fluorescent lighting on a model railroad layout (or used anywhere) can cause serious fading of colors. By non shielded I mean that they don't have a plastic cover over the glass tube to block out / filter the UV rays. For standard perment type mounted fixtures in a drop in tile ceiling they make the plastic sheets to drop in the opening below the florescent tubes that even says in the description that it blocks the UV rays.
