MRH Magazine general discussion

What a find

I have been out of model railroading for some time due to lake of. I decided to at least build some kits I have collected and while doing a search on line I found MRH. This is without a doubt the best magazine I have seen and it is free. Really like the videos included in the articles. Thanks for your work.

Release dates - January 2012 MRH

Here are the official release dates for the January 2012 issue of MRH:

As seen on Model Railroad Hobbyist Magazine??!!!???

So my Youtube home page showed Jason "liked" the video the Train 26 video.  Knowing what fine taste Jason has I clicked on it to check it out.  While watching it I noticed in the lower right corner an eye with As Seen On: Model Railroad Hobbyist  with a clickable link to the MRH site.  I have never noticed this before on any video for any site.  Is this something new?  Has anyone else seen this

MRH on the Kindle Fire

I just wanted to make a few comments about the MRH on Kindle Fire video from the December issue. I think that the ezPDF program you recommended works great where as the links did not work at all in the other program I was using. However, you (Joe) mentioned how annoying it was having the popup verification of every link before following them. You can turn this off. Click the up arrow at the bottom of the screen to bring up the menu, backspace, etc. and chose the menu function. On the far right of the menu that appears, you will see an ... (ellipsis) in orange.

Fair use?

Having tried to write an article for MRH, I'm left with a question.  Like many (most?) of us here, I do a lot of research for my models on line.  The web is without a doubt a superb resource for esoteric information about obscure subjects.  The trouble is, a lot of the information (specifically photographs) is by default the intellectual property of the creator.  That's fine when I want to make a model for myself, and even when I want to sell a model I built, but when I want to write an article and include a prototype photo, what do I do?  For a variety o

Model Railroad News closes shop

Sadly....

After much thought and discussion I regret to announce that effective immediately, Model Railroad News will no longer be published. It has been a pleasure and an honor serving you these past 16 years and if there was any way to continue on, we would do so without a second thought.

Thank you for welcoming us into your homes and allowing us to be a part of your lives.

Sincerely,

The helix instructions by ART HOUSTON

Down the right hand side under the heading, "RECENT BLOG POSTS", is a post by "GEORGE" in regards to, "The helix instructions by Art Houston". I have tried several times to access this information in the past 1/2 hour or so but NO INFO comes up. I have had no problem accessing any of these Blogs in the past or today.

Is there a problem with this link?

Lew Matt - seriously ill

I'm sorry to report that Lew Matt is seriously ill with liver failure, possibly impacted by cancer. His doctors have not completed their diagnosis despite having performed 14 surgeries on Lew in the past 15 days.

Understandably, Lew is exhausted and depressed. He has no immediate family support and is feeling pretty low.

Adding to the Model RR lexicon

Many, many years ago, Model Railroader (I think it was MR, or a predecessor) made up a new term to describe the object that we want to model.  They called it the prototype, which until then had meant something different.  If you look at the definition, it's kind of funny (to me, anyway) to think of a $1.5 million locomotive being a "prototype" for a $100 model.  Still, it's a good term and it works and it's become ubiquitous.
