Okay, this one is kind of significant. Atlas is producing, as part of their Trainman line, the Phase 1 GP39-2 that forms the backbone of my prototype railroad, the Portland & Western (in it's former name of Willamette & Pacific). It will initially be available in two road numbers each of the following railroads: CSX (in YN3), Delaware & Hudson (Blue & Yellow), Portland & Western (Black and Orange) and Santa Fe (Bluebonnet) as well as undecorated. MSRP is $99.95 ($94.94 for the Undec) and they are due out in May 2009.

(Photo no longer exists - see  http://www.atlastrainman.com/HOLoco/tmhogp39-2.htm for them all.

Additionally, Atlas is releasing more of it's 89'4" flatcars in 4 different roadnames with 4 new road numbers each: Providence and Worcester, Erie Western, Florida East Coast, and Trailer Train. MSRP is $35.95 ($29.95 for undecorated) and they are also due out in May 2009.

Looks like those Orange &

Looks like those Orange & black units are going to fill in your roster! I'll be buying one ATSF to patch for BNSF, even though they'll most likely do so in a later run, I want one sooner!

Hey Jeff!  I thought of you

Hey Jeff!  I thought of you immediately with this Atlas announcement.  Posted over on Joe's Siskiyou Line Forum.  Willamette & Pacific is only a set of decals away......  Here's a solid horn blast for us "webfoot route" folk....

That should be a really nice

That should be a really nice model. Hope that the sideframes look better than the standard Atlas. Also may have to get one or two myself.

Sideframes

The sideframes issue could be interesting, since some of the PNWR fleet has been retrofited with the old style leaf springs instead of the rubber -M trucks.

Is it going to be good?

Jeff, I just put three undecs. on pre-order today for my fictional road.  I'm hoping that they will be better than their trainman gp38-2, gonna give up the money and find out!

sideframes

Jeff,

If you come up with a decent method to retrofit the sideframes, please let me know.  I've got a couple of GP38-2s that are destined to be BN GP50 units and they also had the "hybrid" M trucks with leafsprings.

GP39 review?

OK, for those who who ordered.  DId Altas release them?  Did you receive them? What do you think of Altas's latest GP?  Maybe a bit of a review?

Haven't shipped yet

Atlas recently updated it's shipping schedule (http://www.atlasrr.com/ordership.htm) to change the projected shipping date on the GP39-2's from May 2009 to June 2009.

So we're still waiting for them.

It is June 8. so

It is June 8, 2009. They still have 22 days to ship. Now that may not sound like a long time, but given that the price of oil is on the rise and at least part of most model locomotives are made from plastic, and that plastic is one of the products that comes from oil, no one can really expect expected ship dates to be hard and fast these days.

Very Cool!

It's amazing the selection of locomotives that are out today.  I remember the "good ol' days" when if you wanted a unique locomotive you had to kitbash it using an Athearn SD45 and GP35 with the oversized hoods - And we LIKED IT!!!!

Back then, it seemed like almost any EMD loco could be kitbashed somehow using an Athearn SD45, SDP40 and GP35.

That's sure the truth! I have several GP35 / SD45 kitbash projects that never got finished because the real deal came out in model form before my snail's pace loco kitbashes got finished.

I did finish an NW2 kitbash, however ... that was fun. Again, an Athearn loco ...

cooling fans

Gee Joe,

Now you can kit bash some HVAC units for building rooftops, with fan assemblies from GP's and SD's shells.  Oh, I forgot, you don't need Air Conditioning in Western Oregon.

Airco in W. Oregon...

...I wish we didn't need it. My electrical bill would be significantly smaller.

I'm hoping to see them close up at Hartford - perhaps we'll get a chance to photograph them.
