Westcoastgills

Greetings,

I am having difficulty getting my static grass to look like any good.  I am using a TruePower Static Grass Applicator with Peco Basing glue.  I am  grounding correctly (I think) but either the grass lays flat or the screen gets clogged with grass.  (See pic)  I use the medium screen with 4mm grass and the large screen with 7mm grass, but the results are the same.  Bad.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

I had the same problem with

I had the same problem with Peco grass in my Scooter's Static stick so I switched to using NOCH static grass and no more clogging or clogging up the screen.

moisture content?

There was another thread on this issue, I haven't done static grass, but IIRC the problem was moisture in the static grass - and some of that was from the factory, which was why a brand-switch helped.

You might try to find a way to further dry out your static grass before putting it in the applicator. I'm not sure what that could be, since you don't want to melt the stuff either. Everything I can think of, like using a hairdryer, has issues with blowing the stuff around or, like using the oven, melting it. Maybe just unroll a few feet of paper towel and spread it out real thin on that and leave it for a while in a warm dry place.

If moisture is even the problem...

I've had the most success

I've had the most success with Noch and Woodland Scenics products from a clumping perspective.

I've also found Silflor to work will. It clumps, especially the long stuff (need a lot of California Golden round here), but once you hand separate it, it works well.

Do note, it's low humidity out here, even during the rainy season.

You could try baking it in a low heat oven on some cheap cookie sheets to try and dry it out. Not too hot or it will melt.

Alternatively, if you have means, you could get a dehumidifier and use that.

Silflor

I use the Silflor brand static grasses with the Noch static grass applicator and get good results.

One of the steps I do is mix the static grass in a bowl before loading it into the applicator.  This helps break the grass up.  I also leave about 1/4 of the applicator empty so the grass is not packed in and has room to shake around.

I would buy a small amount of a different brand of static grass and see if this corrects the issue.  If not, you may want to try a different applicator.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I live in Vegas so its usually dry as a bone out here.  I will try a different brand and see if that helps.
