eD_thumb.jpg As expected, day 1 of the 2008 NMRA Convention was fairly slow, with a few clinics in the evening, and the Layout Design SIG's traditional Meet and Greet. This is my sixth National Convention, and I've been a past editor of the LD SIG's Journal publication, plus I now serve as the LD SIG's webmaster. For me, the Meet-and-Greet is more "greet" since I know many of the convention regulars in the room from the LD SIG staff, as well as common convention attenders from among the SIG.

I also video'ed Dave Duchamp's Intro to DecoderPro clinic, and I've included a still from the video here. Dave's presentation included a nice PowerPoint explaining how to set up DecoderPro, and a demo using some sound locos. By using sound locos, Dave showed programming on the main and how you can drag a slider to instantly change sound settings. Doing this with sound locos makes for a dramatic presentation, because it clearly demonstrates how easy and effective DecoderPro is for doing decoder programming (click on the photo to the left to view a larger image).

Monday will be mostly clinics, with more JMRI clinics to be video'd in the evening. You can check out Monday's morning schedule here, the afternoon schedule here, and the evening schedule here.

Internet connection at Marriott

Hi Joe,

Is the internet connection Wi-Fi at the Hotel or plug-in in each room?

Breaking news from the convention

From a mailing list I'm on:

"Bruce Petrarca at Litchfield Station just announced that the Soundtraxx
Diesel Tsunami will be available starting Friday at the National Train
Show.... The official announcement will be then, but since Bruce is
using one in his clinic, Soundtraxx gave him permission to let the cat
out of the bag...."
