The following is simply some photos of some Steam Locomotives belonging to my freelanced BARR. While I model modern era, my railroad has a collection of working steam locomotives as part of their PR and Excursion lines. It's not out of the question to see the steam in revenue service... because I like steam  too, and it's my railroad, Photos start with the next post....

KATO 2-8-2 Heavy Mikado

One of two of these, lettered for the BARR. I often double-head them, on a passenger excursion train, or a double-stack container train.

As yet undecorated, it will get a different paint job and lettering to the Mikado above. This was specifically purchased to pull my train of  "Oscar" and "Piker" shorty three-axle passenger cars. Hoping to get this done in the next few weeks.... I'll add a photo of the finished scheme when it is.

This is the train it's for... or at least, the start of it. These were designed by me, after the HO scale Oscar and Piker, and printed by Shapeways.

Atlas 2 truck Shay

This is an amazing little locomotive, and a great hauler. Still undecorated (I have a number of undecorated steam engines to get to in my Round Tuit pile...) , there are several jobs awaiting it. I have some log cars, a small excursion train with open cars, and am in the process of designing some standard gauge mine skips for it to pull that I'll print out  myself...  and am wanting to use it as a yard switcher too. Shays weren't fast, but they could accelerate heavy loads and change directions quickly, and saw use in prototype yards for that reason.

BLI T1 4-4-4-4

This is one of my favorite locomotives.... the Art Deco streamlining is simply gorgeous, and it's power in the real world was undeniable. Imagine having enough reserve to slip the wheels at 100 MPH!  This beast is also due for a paint scheme for my BARR. It's my only sound locomotive, which is because that's the only way it's available. (I'm not a sound fan, particularly in N) I've wanted one of these thoroughbreds since I first saw one in raw brass over 25 years ago. Two jobs await it....   a rake of heavyweight passenger cars, and heading up a high-speed container train, If UP can do it with their Challenger and Big Boy, I can too.

For those not familiar with this locomotive, it is not an articulated in the manner of Challengers and Big Boys... rather, it's a rigid frame compound locomotive.

KATO SP 4-8-4 4449

Whether it's in the SP Daylight orange and red, the American Freedon Train  red, white, and blue, or the muted Warbaby black, this streamliner is one of the most handsome locomotives made. The look of the locomotive is evocative of the peak of passenger railroading, and continues to draw fans even today on excursion trains.

Bachmann J Class 4-8-4 Northern

This locomotive, built in RL for the Norfilk and Western, is another beautiful example of a streamlined steam locomotive, designed for high-speed passenger runs. It's been redecorated for my BARR line, and is quite handsome in the blue and white striping.
