I've made a few adjustments to the track arrangement on my model railroad First, I've removed the second engine servicing track to allow the scene to breathe some more. The removal of this track allows me to include an engine shed while leaving plenty of room for additional trackside details that would have been difficult to squeeze in before.

Additionally, I removed a short storage track on the opposite end of Sandpoint yard as it was too short to spot more than a single car and was all but useless on my layout.

These updates are a result of taking what I've created on virtual paper and laying it down on physical plywood.  I've found that no matter how careful I am when designing a track plan, the reality of turnout length and clearances ultimately requires that I trim back my original intentions.

I like it

Very believable track plan with good operating possibilities.  If you have the time, construction should move along easily at a smooth pace.  Hope to see more pictures when it all begins.

Love it!

This is an excellent plan Matt. I really like it!

The only think I would suggest is consider connecting Lehigh Cement to the siding at USK instead of the main to allow some headroom to transfer cars from one track to the other. This way a track-mobile or company owned switcher can work the cement plant without fouling the main.

Bill, Awesome idea!  I had considered this approach for a while but ultimately decided on the current iteration to give me more options while switching. I'm not concerned about fouling the mainline as the MFR is a "One Locomotive" short line where a single crew does all the work up and down the valley (three days a week at that)

By separating the switch that leads to the cement plant from the trackage that serves the Newsprint and Pole mills, I am also adding a bit of "distance" between facilities in my mind. (if that makes any sense at all)  Great idea though!

I kinda figured that was the thinking already, but the thought of a second job with a trackmobile (not allowed off the company tracks) would be irresistible to me
