I'm new to using forums so forgive me if I do anything wrong.

I need help with JMRI - the signal mast aspects that I've allowed in the Signal Mast table are not the only ones being driven by JMRI and sent to the signals.

I'm using PanelPro 4.18 with a Digitrax BDL168 and an SE8c in a Digitrax system.  I've set the signal masts to follow the BN 1989 timetable.  For certain routes I've only allowed CLEAR, DIVERGING CLEAR, and STOP indications for their associated signal masts.  When occupancy and switch position should drive CLEAR (green over red), the JMRI PanelPro icon shows green over dark (I've not allowed dark), the SIgnal Mast Table shows the signal indication as CLEAR, but the on-layout signal is green over flashing yellow - an aspect that not only doesn't exist on the timetable but is also NOT what I want.

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

Need some more information first...

Can you take a screen shot of the “add signal mast” window and what you have set in the fields?

Also look through the following Youtube videos to see if anything stands out that you may have missed....

You should be able drive each of the heads on the mast from the “signal head” table too, if it doesn’t match the actual mast, it sounds like you might have the orientation of the 10 pair signal cable around the wrong way.

Are you absolutely positive

Are you absolutely positive the wiring at the drivers to the signal heads is correct? And could eliminating certain aspects, even though you don't want them, such as Rules 232-236, etc., be at the root of the issues? Maybe JMRI needs more "room" to do its thing.

I can drive the signals from

I can drive the signals from the signal mast table and they respond appropriately.  To me that confirms that the wiring from the SE8c to the signal is correct.

Those Youtube videos, though a little behind the times and wantingly lacking for detail, are what got me started... my inspiration to dive in the deep end!  Your last link goes to a missing video, though.

Take a look at the "Add/Edit Signal Mast" shot you asked for.  Now it's got me wondering what is the correct mast driver to be using for my set up?  "Single Head Controlled Mast" is what I chose.

Try the double-head

Try the double-head searchlight signal setting. Single-head searchlight setting won't get you R/G diverging clear.

Try this Tim...

Looking at the screen and particularly the “add/edit signal mast” screen you need to change the mast type as the others have already suggested in the “mast type” drop down box to a “double head - high mast”.

Then you need to add the individual “signal heads” for that mast into the “mast driver” drop down box, this should auto populate.  I always use a labelling convention the identifies the upper & lower aspect in the mast and/or dwarf.

Your add/edit mast window should look like this for a double head mast, although with your selected aspects for BN.

OK, I gave you bad info

Sorry... In an effort to show you what I had, I was adding a signal and I didn't replicate everything I did.  So here's a screen shot of an existing signal.  All is the same as you have (except the BN part) and for whatever reason the upper and lower signal heads are not showing in the grayed out boxes... but they're there because I can manually change any mast's aspects.

So even though 289 should be displaying clear on the layout, on the PanelPro panel it shows green over dark and on the layout the signal is green over flashing yellow.

For this problem, it seems to be CLEAR that it has a problem displaying the correct aspect.  Any chance that it is the "BN 1989" timetable that the system is having a problem with?

Tim can you take a...

Screen shot of the “Configure SE8C” window for the board that it giving you issues?  You get to it via the LocoNet tab in the PanelPro window.

Need to see what you have the “4th Aspect” set for?

I may be onto something here...

I've been hoping to avoid the pain of deleting all masts and starting over but I picked one last night that had few logic lines and wasn't tied to others.  Instead of using the BN 1989 timetable I selected the BNSF timetable.  More aspects than I'll ever need BUT it seemed to solve my problem.  Now everything from the panel icon to the signal on the layout is behaving properly (for that signal).  No more green over flashing yellow when it should be green over red.

Today I will delete all my other masts and start over.  Since the railroad is still going together that's only 13 masts for now.   I'll let you know how it goes.

Here's the SE8c window

Changing to bunny sniffer worked

Some smart person is going to have to explain this:  When I changed the signal system to the BNSF timetable, now everything works properly and no more green over flashing yellow.  I guess my system didn't like the BN timetable.  Go figure!

Report it via...

JMRI groups.io, I had issues with the NS2008 - Signal Definitions that someone was able to fix up.

Glad everything is working...
