Since my family has been at home, we have looked for projects and "fun" things to do to pass the time and keep us all off of electronic devices.  One of these projects includes building some G scale cars.

Summary

I've built several Northeast Narrow Gauge "G-Scale" kits over the years which are designed around Ted Stinson's plans.  I've also downloaded/ordered several of these plans, which are still available from Garden Railways as can be found here:   Garden Railways Plans.  Once the stay at home order hit our state, I thought this would be a fun project for my kids and me to work on.  My son picked a G Scale Combine and my daughter picked a generic G scale boxcar.

The plans are very straight forward and use English measurement dimensional wood, most of which are available from quality hobby stores and also at places such as Hobby Lobby.  I cut most of the strip wood on my table saw.  I also have many leftover parts from the earlier cars that I've built.  I am waiting on an order of scribed siding so we can move forward on this project.  The following are a few more pictures of the build.

The above photo shows the plans we are working on.  These plans were included with Garden Railways for a time.

The Stock Car is what I am building.

This is the subshell for the boxcar that my daughter is building.  Scribed siding will be glued to the side of it.  To the right, you can just barely see the floor for the passenger car my son is building.

This has been a fun project with my kids and something that I hope they will be able to look back on and remember something good about this stay at home time.

Wow, marvelous projects!

That is so cool! There is so much to learn with projects like these, and sharing the experiences with each other by building in tandem is so rewarding.

Your kids are very fortunate! Good job Dad.
