I’m building a resin kit from Island Model Works. It is of a CBQ gallery commuter car-coach. On one end, it has two tiny windows instead of a window of the usual size. I’m trying to figure out why. Is it a bathroom or conductor room?
If there are any CBQ/BN/BNSF/METRA commuters or commuter rail fans that know, please inform us. Here are some photos I have found online showing this tiny window. This is NOT a cab control car.
Extra points if you can let me know the car numbers of these particular coaches. Thanks in advance.

Living in Chicago, I rode

Living in Chicago, I rode those trains for many years. I don't recall, and I'm almost certain that there were no windows in the restrooms.

I road them for many years

I road them for many years working downtown. I travelled from Aurora, to CHICAGO, AT LEAST TWICE A DAY.

I also model these cars. The small windows for the older coaches, and Cabs, is the stairwell going up to the second level. There are no windows in the new ones, either. Unless it has changed in the last 20 years, then I wouldn't know. Hope this helps.

Thanks

BNSF-FAN - Thank you. That makes sense. The odd parts about the casting seem to be that they put the tiny windows on the wrong end/side. I can only find photos of the windows on the LEFT side if the car is going right to left. I also don’t understand the huge rectangle hole above the doors. I can’t find a photo of a Burlington car that ever had a window/vent or other item in that section.

CB&Q,BN,BNSF,and METRA still use the BUDD built.....

Gallery cars, were the first commuter cars with HEP in the US a few newer generations have followed

from Red Lion PA since.

Both Walters and Kato have done models of the cars/cabcars in the past.

Metra controls the former CB&Q service, that is still subcontracted to BNSF to operate at the present time

Roster info might be found on the CB&Q/BN historical websites.

Those little windows might be the ends of the seating inside the cars.

BackShopHoss - Thanks for the link

I knew there was a build on the Atlas Rescue forum, and I appreciate the help in finding it. I also found out it’s a small world since the author of that build is now doing amazing work on 1/87 vehicles and I own some of them. A quick message on Facebook and I received even more information. This is a great place to find answers.

Stairs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it has been about four years, but aren't the stairs in the gallery cars just inside the doors to the center vestibule? So as to not crowd the aisle at stops? That means those small Windows are NOT for the stairs, they're at the wrong end.

Modeling On30 and proud of it. There is a jar of rivets on the workbench if you feel the need to count.

New info and genealogy report.

After much searching and reading onequicknova’s blog in the Atlas Rescue Forum, has led me to the ROCK and not the Q. These cars are exact match for Rock Island Budd built gallery cars, so any mention of stairs might be different on each order.
now I get to build a Burlington Foobie.
