On its way!

Looks like an interesting facility, is there a prototype?

Not to knock you but the conveyor truss looks pretty bulky. Will the conveyor between the bins die into the elevator headhouse?

It looks like a good start. I've found that looking at real examples, weathering, and detailing really make or break elevator models. I look forward to your progress!

Prototype: No

Prototype: No.    but I'm using the Farmers COOP KILDARE and Blackwell as my to copy list and looking at a few others on google and google maps

I have not 3D printed the truss (That is the bridge from Superior Paper Mill Complex) , it is a stand in.  I might be just running grain chutes from the leg down into each bin.  Have not decided yet.  I have not found a good photo of the truss to copy and 3D print.  It will not tie into the side of the elevator.  It will come of the leg that will feed the bins and the older red elevator.

Hermosa is in Tempe.  Also

Hermosa is in Tempe.  Also called E. Hermosa Dr. or one of 2 streets I lived on as a kid in Tempe.  The other was E. Carson Dr.  I uses some streets and townships as other place names that my wife lived on or grew up into.

I belong to a few groups,  Operator groups mostly.  I know lots of people like Doc at the Scottsdale Railroad Park he runs the HO layout etc. I know people at the Gilbert Club as well as the ex DCC guy from MRH.  I think I have an ops event with him next week.

I worked as a Sr. Tech and Process Tech at the huge chip plant in Chandler for 21 years.  FAB6, FAB12, FAB22, FAB32.

I lived in chandler back when Pecos RD was dirt, the price freeway was not there and Alma School had was just a 2 lane Rd. to no place.

Legs

On the leg, I would move it adjacent to bin 1 or 2 from the concrete elevator and shorten it. It could be interesting to do two separate elevator complexes. It's location now is too far practically from the bins.

The truss should be smaller imo if you go that route, see a good example below. (I built this one in an earlier era in HO)

Nice

Eric,

That is a nice looking structure.  Did Roy help working on it?  Did you 3D print any of the buildings or associated structures or is it a bunch of kits?

Roy gifted me this Walthers

Roy gifted me this Walthers prairie grain elevator kit for the layout/GS&M.  I just finally got around to building the kit.  I’m sharing the build as per his wishes.  This particular kit has been sitting on the do next shelf for over a year now.  I figured I better get it done.

I will be 3D printing a few small detail items.  More than like the small grain distribution bridge over the grain bins.

Thanks for following along and asking.

Drawings for grain legs and conveyors

Take a look at http://www.sweetmanufacturing.com. I downloaded a bunch of manuals for grain legs and conveyors that I used when printing the parts for my ADM project. The manuals contain drawings and measurements as well as pictures. You can look at my project photos on my blog here.

Have fun.

johnsong53 - I think your link is just a base domain link (Or a Dead Link) - I would like to see an exact link to those manuals,

I will look,  Thanks

Links to manuals

It could be that they changed domains. That said, SweetMfg.com has a) brochures for their products in detail,  https://www.sweetmfg.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/PDFs/Sweet_Brochures_sizedfinal_0.pdf andb) installations,  https://www.sweetmfg.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/PDFs/Sweet_Manuals_sized1.pdf

IMO, the grain bins you are using are probably undersized. In my experience many years ago working at large grain facilities, the bins at grain elevators were far bigger than the ones used on farms. Probably too big for most layouts. Think the size of a wide Walthers oil storage tank. I'm not sure that you would need to use conveyors or just the downtubes and distribution heads on a standard leg. But if you want to consider looking at the Walthers conveyor bridge (etched metal) 933-2940. Not currently available, though (even though they said they'd have it this month) (edited - add on) An alternative at Shapeways is  https://www.shapeways.com/product/KVHWE7PUJ/ho-scale-20-conveyor-bridge-section?optionId=56257186&li=shops. This guy produces a lot of grain elevator details.

This is an example from one of the facilities I worked at.

Loosely based on F.P.

Loosely based on F.P. NIELSON & SONS in mesa Arizona.  The Actual grain bins are much smaller and many more of them.  I could use HO grain bins but then they are way too big.  I'm also limited in space to place this industry and it is mirrored to what is actually in that location.

The entire area on the layout is compressed to fit.  This is about the best photo I can find for what I'm after

  56-hires.jpg

I also made modification based on a similar elevator, So int he end this is realy 3 maybe 4 different elevators combined into one.
