Hello everyone

I am looking for some good detailed water tank plans, specifically the interior mechanism. The railroad that I model was in Arkansas and did not have roofs on their water tanks so I'll need to model the mechanism but I'm not sure what it looked like.

Thanks for all the advice and help!

It looks like the water tank

It looks like the water tank in the old TV series Petticoat Junction that the gals swam in : )

Just an upsized toilet cistern

Hi Motorailer,

The innards are like a beefed up toilet cistern. If you are after a detailed plan, then have a look at  https://www.victorianrailways.net/infastuct/6000galtank.pdf  Even though its from the other side of the world, as a mechanism, it probably would be close to what would have been in Arkansas.

Depending on how the mechanism is set up, as a model on the inlet side you'd probably only see the float on the top of the water. The outlet to the spout would probably be invisible under the water. The float and level indicator is separate and is also shown on that Victorian railways plan in the link.

I hope that this helps get you started,

Regards,

John Garaty
