Hi everyone,

I am looking to apply Testors Glosscote with my airbrush to a few freight cars. I was unable to find directions though. Can someone help answer the following questions:

Airbrush Air Pressure?

Thinner Options?

Thinner Ratios?

Airbrush Cleanup?

Thanks ahead of time.

Gloss

You can use Glosscote, if this is the enamel version thin slightly with the Testors Airbrush Thinner and spray about 35 PSI.

Option B which is far lower cost is to use Future Floor wax which is now called Pledge Floor Gloss.  It can be sprayed as is and use ammonia based windex to clean your airbrush.

regular lacquer thinner

also works well with Glosscote and Dulcote.

Thanks...

Thanks guys. I was going to try the laquer thinner blend. 50/50 was what I saw as the common split, what do you do Rick?

Dan, I am curious about the Pledge Floor Gloss. Can you follow that with Dullcoat, or some other flat coat?

I do dullcote over pledge all

I do dullcote over pledge all the time. Works well.

Or brush it

Pledge Floor Gloss also brushes on extremely well. It is "thinner than water" in viscosity, and self-leveling, so arrange the model on a stable, level surface, then paint on. Do not shake the bottle to avoid forming bubbles. A single coat is all you need, do not go back and "thicken it up". For the small scales, this is usually faster and easier than setting up an airbrush. After it dries, apply decals with setting solution as needed, allow the decals to dry, then paint edges with more Pledge. Allow to dry, weather, apply Dullcoat, done.

I use Glosscote every once in a long while (normally Pledge like others)  but Dulcote all the time so I don't really remember an exact ratio.I used it about three weeks ago as I needed to spray an entire car and felt more secure with a faster drying agent than Pledge. Usually I start out with the normal paints at about 25% thinner and thin more from there if it is not quite spraying well.

For some reason I've always preferred to under thin a little....just habit.
