Hi Folks:  I'm Going to be modeling the area around Alamosa and walsenburg colorado, most of it is pretty scrubby and covered with sagebrush, which is known for a silver grey green appearance, what do you recommend using to reproduce that on my layout?

Lichen

The closest I've found so far is some light green lichen and some slightly darker bush material.

I'd also be interested to see what other people have done.

Search

Rob Spangler has the best sagebrush I've seen on an HO railroad.  Well, not counting a guy who built each tiny wire armature by hand.

Rob uses a 3M scrubbing pad, cuts it up, teases it out and flocks it.  Use the MRH search for "Spangler + sagebrush."  It should come up.

Last MRH magizine?

Didn't the recent article on Rob's 8th sub have a bit on how he does sage?

Northern Utah Division Sagebrush Clinic by Blaine Holbrook

Last year Blaine Holbrook presented an excellent clinic at the NMRA Northern Utah Division meeting on making sagebrush using hemp rope.  It’s a fast, easy and gives realistic results.  Here’s a link to the handouts (scroll down to the Feb 18, 2018 clinic.)   http://www.northernutahnmra.org/monthly-events/past-clinics/

Re: Graham Line

I did in fact discuss my sagebrush with Joe when interviewed for MRH (July, 2019 issue) and TMTV.

As shown here, they're 3M paint stripping pads, sprayed with 3M Super 77 adhesive, and coated with ground foam.  They're easy and inexpensive.

So Much for That

I'll just respond with the words of William Tecumseh Sherman when declining to run for the Presidency in 1884.

I like Rob Spanglers sage

I like Rob Spanglers sage brush and made some to get my feet wet doing scenery on my last layout.

Here are the paint stripper pads being cut into strips and then teased into individual sage brush armatures.:

Here are some coated with a couple different types of foam:

More Sage Smudging

From a former N scale 2x4 layout - Painted WS Ground Foam - Will use Rob's method on new layout.

What ground foam?

Is there a ground foam that is already sage colored that you used? Those bushes look great!

Sage

I painted WS ground foam sage color. There are a ton of threads on sage in here. Rob and the rest of the crew use AMSI or Accurail have colors close to sage color. Search for Sage - Rob's tutorials are outstanding.

The greenish blue foam color

The greenish blue foam color is Eucalyptus if I recall correctly from AMSI and also Accurail sage.  Hopefully Rob can chime in to confirm.

Yes Jim Eucalyptus is right

Yup

Eucalyptus from AMSI works, as does "sagebrush" from Accurail  http://accurail.com/accurail/scenery.htm .
