Very interesting. The article about the Australian steel mill

Reminded me that the steel mills required a massive volume of inbound materials.
My railroad is in the middle between coal and iron mines and a large steel mill. And the local area is known for limestone quarry’s.

Steel mill consumption

For a pound for pound comparison, nothing beats a steel mill for operation and variety. So many ingredients to create different types and styles of steel and by product.

Thanks Steve and Old Cup

Steve - I’m glad you enjoyed the issue. I keep finding these specific ezines for various model railroading interest. My best friend has small and micro layouts, and he showed me Townhouse Modeler.  A ezine devoted to that subject. I guess there are many out there from every historical society and SIG of the NMRA.

Donald does nice work.

You are right on with the comment Jim. Donald always works well with contributors and I like that he posts links to every steel or iron ore related Facebook group or web page. It’s a one stop shopping for information and parts to build just about any size or shape of mill related structure.

Always enjoyed this magazine,

Always enjoyed this magazine, Wish there was a similar concept for logging modellers.

Nice to see some Australian and NSW modelling. I grew up near Port Kembla Steel works with my farther and grandfather working for BHP. Have been to port waratah a few times over the years.

Port Kemba Works.

@Batey - the Port Kemba Works have a lot of coverage in the Facebook group Steel Mill Modelers.

I can’t imagine there isn’t a logging rail group somewhere. If not, there is an opportunity for you to start one and find fellow modelers interested in the same thing. I always enjoyed running the Pickering Logging line on my friends Sierra Railroad layout. Plus the narrow gauge West Side Lumber into Tuolomne CA.

Plenty of logging facebook groups out there. Its a shame TimberTimes magazine is no longer published.
