Thanks

That’s a 48 Divco.   The resin body for the model from Jimmy Flintstone. The wheels are 3D prints but with the texture it makes them have a matte finish. Oh well.

Santa Fe Railway, Los Angeles Division 1950s

Very slow progress on my version of the Santa Fe Railway, Los Angeles Division set in the 1950s. My intention was to get the general feel, rather than model actual LA Div localities. Greatly influenced by the 3rd and 4th districts. Modeling the 3rd district gives me an excuse to run Union Pacific trains as well. Photos show one of the rural communities, Clinton now nearing completion with a freight hauled by a pair of Stewart FTs rolling through town. The Clinton depot is a paper-and-cardboard stand in. Plan is to construct an old Grizzly Flats craftsman kit by Period Miniatures over the next couple of weeks.

Hit the ground running...

Great work everyone! It seems that you all have hit the ground running this month!

Karl: great progress there and inspiring work on the original buildings you got there!

Steve: very very nice rust work!

Lyndon: VERY nice layout there, glad to see another layout themed after the LA division (i model the same division in the late 60s).

MPI, Ed and Kevinn, great scenes!

Thank you all for posting these.

@Steve

Steve, your Divco milk truck - I assume that is 1/24th scale?  And do I detect use of crackle paint on the sides?

Excellent model - most convincing rust!

Thanks Yannis and Al Carter

Thanks guys.  Glad you like something odd here.   Yes, that is 1/25th scale. The tires and wheels 3D prints. Not as smooth as I would like but do the job. This was just for some rust streak practice.

The crackling/ chipping is MIG ammo heavy chipping fluid.  I painted the entire body red primer, then clear, then chipping fluid, then craft acrylic over that.  I just mixed a few left over colors together for the body color.  I just want some color that would show the rust well.  This seemed like a generic enough vintage color.  The craft acrylic chips easily which is nice. Some brands of paint dont due to the chemicals in their mix.  I have debated some type of well worn signage on the sides?  Maybe?  Or do the same type of work on an REA truck sometime for fun?

Great work here again this week everyone.  Amazing there are so many week after week.  Nice job all!

Thanks again, Steve

I took a diorama outdoors last week to photograph some of my recently completed projects.

Hey Kevinn

Id love to see an old annie and mary paint scheme on those....what was it, just orange with tiger stripe on the nose ends of those 44 tonners? I think I may even be able to pull that paint scheme off.
