Just a note, this scene is not finished.

While I do appreciate any and all input, I have a long list of things planned before I call it finished. But as for now, the fork is getting stuck right here!  The reason for that is I have so much scenery ahead of me that I feel I'm getting bogged down working through just one scene and trying to finish it with all the details.  So my plan going forward is to rough in the scenery, move to another section, rinse and repeat.  Then as inspiration hits, I'll come back to a previous scene and add details or work on weathering or something  As of right now, I figure I have close to 40 lnft of layout that still needs scenery, and at this point that feels like 4000' to me.  Talk about the Texas Syndrome!

A friend reminded me of a famous saying from the late great George Carlin that kind of sums things up.

So as of last night I got the piping painted and sat in place.

That sounds how I went about it...

I wanted my track _done_!  So after realizing that if I tried to scenic everything first (the first couple sections were kinda iffy on operational ability, at least as I considered them) I was going to never run trains again...

Track before scenery

One thing I hate is having to go back and do something over again if I can at all avoid it.  I started the build in 2008, my track has been down since early 2011.  I've tweaked and relaid the biggest share of the mainline after we started running OP's due to improvements and suggestions.  Which is why I didn't get excited about starting any scenery until recently.  Had I needed to rip up all the scenery just to change things I would have thrown in the towel a long time ago.

Now that the mainline will not change all I need to do is to adjust the spurs as I get the buildings and scenes ready.

Looks Great!

I really like the look of the tanks, never seen tanks like that before, did you scratch build those? Makes me think of using soda/pop cans to make tanks.

Quick work!

It amazes how quickly you can make a realistic scene.  I get hung up on details, and fail to get started...
I'm really enjoying your progress, keep up the good work.

Let me now get the details off my mind so I can get to sleep tonight?
Just from personal experience, I would be scared to death to try to get from your ladders to the tank tops. There are lots of ways they do it, but usually there is ladder extending above the top to aid in 'stepping across'. Such a small detail, but your work is so good that I really spent time looking at all of it and that caught my eye..
Thanks for you posting.

Storage tanks...

No, these are Tomytec kits, I think they're suppose to be LNG tanks?

I got mine off of eBay from Plaza Japan.   They're not 1/160, I think their 1/150, but close enough.  The details are a little big but not out of line.

Thank you...

... for the kind words and you're welcome.

I haven't gotten this far on a layout before and I get hung up on details as well. How far do you take them? How much detail do I need?  I think if one steps back and looks at the entire scene as a whole, your mind will fill in the details, especially with N scale?

As for the ladders, yeah I thought about replacing those with some Caged ladders from Gold Metal Models?  I have four other tanks in that same scene that I made from PVC that I need to put some caged ladders on, depending how they go I may go back and replace the stock ladders on the Tomytec tanks?
