Atlas

Atlas had sample cars of several new products at the show:

The Trinity 3230 Pressure Differential Hopper in HO scale was developed from their larger 5660 PD by Thrall Car in the late 1990s. It is all new tooling with separately applied wire grab irons, separately applied wire cut levers, and etched metal roofwalks. Roadnames in the first release include CIT Group/Captial Finance, TXI (GBRX), General Electric Rail Services, Roanoke Cement, Trinity Industries Leasing, and Chicago Freight Car.

Hornby

Hornby/Rivarossi is looking towards America again, with a series of small boxcars, named "Soft boxcars."

IMG_9486.jpg

IMG_9133.JPG

Note: Rivarossi is aware the color of the PRR boxcar is incorrect, and no units have been produced yet.

That just might be the case. I'll have to ask the Hornby guys.

Thanks for the idea.

Bachmann

Since someone asked, this seems like a good time to show off Bachmann's new models.

First, the aforementioned On30 2-6-2T locomotive, in a variety of drab paint schemes (the Army does not go for flashy):

Jacksonville Terminal Company

Jacksonville Terminal Company continues to produce not only new paint schemes but entirely new N scale containers - to the point that HO scale modelers are asking them to make them in HO as well. I got the idea that probably wasn't going to happen soon.

Bachmann 1/29 coupler

That's an an exact copy of the old Aristocraft coupler. We knew Bachmann got the molds from Aristo (via Kader?) and Bachman has already "released" old Aristocraft products.

Athearn

Athearn didn't have any new announcements, as Chris put it, "We're here supporting our previously announced products."

That includes the SD90MAC's, which have exceeded Athearn's expectations for pre-orders:

Peco

Peco has a couple of interesting products in the pipeline, beginning with the Twistlock turnout motor:

IMG_9404.jpg

They provide a template to drill three holes - the center is for the throwbar, and the two outside holes hole the posts that the Twistlock mounts to, simply by placing it between them and twisting to the right until they lock into place.

IMG_9402.jpg

IMG_9401.jpg

Also new is the Wills OO/HO Modular Kit system, where various industrial and retail buildings can be constructed using modules that are part of the system:

Kato

Kato has a nice display at the show, including the new N scale Amtrak Viewliner as well as the Union Pacific SD70ACe's Spirit of UP #1943 and George HW Bush #4141:

Kato is also positioning themselves as a big supporter of T-Trak, a modular standard. While N scale is currently the most popular scale for T-Trak modeling, there are standards either developed or in the works for T, Z, N, TT, HO/OO, S, O, L, and G scales  http://www.t-trak.org/standards.html

Kato has developed a "T-Trak in a box" kit that contains many of the materials for building a single N scale T-Trak module:

Lionel

Lionel is coming back to HO scale in a big way, with their next catalog (Due Monday 7/15/2019) featuring around 125 new HO scale products. Many of these will be identifiable as prior Model Power products - Lionel purchased the Model Power line a year or two ago. LPP's (Little Plastic People) are going to figure largely in this release, with both painted and unpainted figures to be available. That includes the bag of several dozen unpainted figures available for under $20. See the clinic entry on "Frankensteining your Figures" a couple of days back for inspiration on what to do with that...

The new catalog:

IMG_9315.jpg

Lionel is not neglecting their O scale line either, in fact several of the Model Power products are being released in O scale as well.

A very early test sample was on display of an O scale N&W J-class 4-8-4 locomotive:

IMG_9318.jpg

IMG_9321.jpg

Also on display were two 4-4-0 locomotives, set up in a setting reminiscent of the Golden Spike ceremony:

_9318(1).jpg

All the white plastic parts on the sample are 3D printed, and will be replaced by injection molded parts. As can be seen from the wheels, these are very early samples, sent for the show:
