I'm planning to add sound to my remotorized MDC boxcab. I'd like to add a loksound decoder and was curious to know which sound file would be the closest to an actual AGEIR boxcab. For the record, the specific locomotives I'm replicating are Erie 19 and 20 boxcabs used at Harlem 149th Street Station.

Best regards!

Not definitive, but an idea

The AGEIR boxcabs, as far as I know, were 6-cylinder 300hp (if they were either the 60-, or 66-ton variants, the 100-ton variant had two 300hp engines). I suspect an ALCO HH-series (ALCO 600, HH600, HH660, HH900, and HH1000) were similar-sounding and those were powered by the 6-cylinder 531, although I do not know if Loksound has a file for the 6-cylinder 531.

The 531 was similar to the 539T, which was used in the S-2, S-4, RS-1, RSC-1, RSD-1, DL-105, DL-107, DL-108, DL-109, DL-110, S-7, S-12, and RSC-13, so there definitely should be a sound file on that if one does not exist for the 6-cylinder 531 or the 300hp 6-cylinder.

Very neat locomotive!

Not Quite True

The box cabs had no turbo and much slower RPM.  ALCO designed a 300HP 6 cyl.  A baby 531 called the 330.  Built less than 10 locomotives, but lots of engines for other purposes

A 539 non turbo might work.  But, a Baldwin is probably a better choice cause of the max RPMs.  ESU has both sounds.
