Hello .. I have an Aristo-Craft G Gauge Santa Fe Steam Locomotive # 209 San Bernadino that has been in storage for about 15 years and we have gotten the setup out and find that the motor seems to be bound up.  I have opened up the bottom of the engine case to expose the motor and it seems OK, and all connections are good but the armature through the motor won't turn.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  TNX, Steve

North West Short Line

http://www.nwsl.com/  is a good source for all model railroad mechanisms .

If the motor is seized, they will have a replacement.

Does the geared axle lift out away from the worm ?  It appears that it does -- once that gear is clear of the worm the motor should turn.  It would be unusual that motor bearings be completely seized.

Diagnoses by partioning the mechanism is a basic approach to problem solving.  Each axle should move freely.  Could the valve gear be bound up ?

Side rods

Check the side rods, other related parts. NWSL is suppose to close soon last I heard.

Can you move that driver a little and see any movement in the worm?

Suggest posting on LSC

Not to draw away from the wealth of knowledge here at MRH, but I think you might have a better answer to your problem/question if you post to a large scale specific website. I would suggest largescalecentral.com as there is a large group of members that have Aristocraft locomotives and could probably walk you through solving this problem.
