is there a way to get to the end of a thread to add a new post, in other words to the last post?   If not, can one be added?   a hyper link from the time of the last post

i don't see one using chrome.   There's a link to the author of the last post (??)

in multi-page threads, you need to go the the bottom of the first page to get to the links to the other pages, including the last page, go to the last page and then got to the bottom of the last page

@Greg

Hi Greg,

If you use "Recent posts" to display your list of threads AND someone had added a post since you last looked at that particular thread then "X new" is displayed. If you click "x new" then that will take you to the first of the last x new posts. This might not get you to the last post directly if the last post has landed on a new page.

Joef has stated on here previously that in order to generate your pages quickly the page number links are generated after the first page is displayed. If the page numbers were displayed at the top of page 1 then that would slow down the display of the webpages to our machines. This is a design "feature" of the software that is used to run this forum.

It is unlikely to be "fixed" to allow the display of page numbers created and displayed upfront before the information on the page is displayed. This "fix" would require major coding to be done, that would involve paying someone to do the coding changes/regression testing etc.

It's a nice suggestion, but achieving it is not as simple as it sounds,

Getting to the comment box...

You don't need to get to the last post in a thread, just to the end of the page.

For those using a keyboard, pressing END, CRTL+Down Arrow, or CTRL+End should bring you to the bottom of the page instantly.

On a phone or tablet, I'm not sure, but I know it has come up before here.

It does - by each thread against your log-in.

It does - but not in the way you'd like it to.

That's how this sandbox works. Please don't throw your toys out because you don't like the feel of the sand.

Because nobody coded it.

That's probably basically it - nobody coded such a feature for the software the MRH site rides on. And since that basic platform is fairly old (there are newer versions), it is unlikely anyone is still writing for it.

It’s software, you can make it do anything...

All it takes is time, money, and possibly an infinitely fast computer.

It’s impossible to say for sure why not without digging into the code, and since John says Joe said his tech guys did and found it would be unacceptably slow given the contrains they have to work within, well, they’re probably right.

to reach the last page of posts is a drag...

Pick the subject. Page opens and you need to scroll to the bottom. Page numbers are listed there to let you move forward in the thread. Would be nice to have the page numbers repeated at the top of the page. (Actually, repeated at the bottom, but they're currently missing from the top) All else is within my expectations.

Peter

Last post on threads with no new posts

The quick way to get to the last post on threads with no new posts is to: 1. Click thread title 2. Press the END key to jump immediately to the bottom of the page 3. Click Last link in page navigator 4. Press End key to jump to bottom of page Two clicks and two keystrokes and you're there. Should take less than 5 seconds.
